Taylor was a practice squad member for the first four weeks of the season, but he was promoted to the active roster against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.

Big B, a Green Bay Packers  podcast host who has previously broken stories about the team like being the first to report that former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his toe back in 2021, reported on Wednesday that Green Bay will not be re-signing running back Patrick Taylor back to the practice squad over the bye week . Taylor had previously played in four of the Packers’ five regular season games this season, despite the fact that he’s spent most of the year on Green Bay’s practice squad.

Taylor has already exhausted all three of his practice squad elevations, meaning that the team would need to keep the running back on the 53-man roster to use him on gamedays moving forward. The Packers did just that in Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders , when outside linebacker Justin Hollins was released to make room for the promotion of Taylor. On Tuesday, one day after the Raiders game, Green Bay re-signed Hollins to the active roster and let Taylor go . At the time, the assumption was that Taylor would re-sign with the practice squad, something ESPN’s Rob Demovsky alluded to on Twitter/X.

The Packers are now in a very interesting position, as they only have two healthy running backs on their 70-man team — including the active roster and the practice squad. Starting running back Aaron Jones reaggravated his hamstring on Saturday , which kept him out of action against the Raiders. Below are the snap counts this season for all the non-Jones running backs that have seen action in the regular season for the Packers:

179 offensive snaps: AJ Dillon
70: Taylor
14: Emanuel Wilson

Green Bay is either really confident that Jones is going to be healthy on the other side of the bye week, or they are putting a lot of faith into Emanuel Wilson — the undrafted rookie free agent who they haven’t played much, despite being a member of the 53-man roster for the entirety of the regular season.

Don’t be surprised if the Packers add a running back to the practice squad in the near future, as they’re up against the numbers at the position right now.

The amount of times this guy has been cut and re-signed and repeat is bonkers.

Headline says he won't be resigned.

Article says, he won't be resigned during the bye week.

I feel like those are two very different statements. So we MIGHT see him resigned in 7 days.

I feel this something similar happened with another Packers player and he eventually said no mas, won't re-sign and went elsewhere because he got tired of the on/off thing with Packers.

If you mean this year, then I think you're referring to S/ILB Carpenter, whom left because he seemingly didn't love playing LB and wanted to go back to S, but Packers wanted him at LB.

ILB Joe Thomas?

There was a lot of confusion over that, paperwork or minds were changed, and then the other side mind changed, or something like that.

Taylor has had chances to show that he is worth a roster spot. His 2.8 yards per carry isn't good enough. His avg over 3 season has declined every year. 3.9, 3.1 now 2.8. Wilson is only 2.2 so I am sure there is no urgency to keep him either.

Part of Taylor's problem is his failure as a receiver. 10 targets with only 5 receptions and a pitiful 5.6 avg. Only Kraft is worse. Some of it is Love's inaccurate passes. Some of it is his drops.

Back in training camp days I heard someone describe Taylor as a jack of all trades. Ok at most things but excelling at none of them. There are plenty of other RBs like that floating around.

Lastly, Taylor was supposedly a decent pass blocker. I don't know if he has been this year or not. I also wonder if Wilson has shown enough ability to merit letting Taylor go.

Zero2Cool (17h) : I know we moved on. That tidbit just makes me a touch happier.
Zero2Cool (17h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."

beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
