:)

You posted an article stating that Nick wouldn't be in camp regardless of his family issues, preceding your comment of you predicting a hold out :)

I got ya now.

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page...

My "prediction" was technically a "bitch" I made when the pro bowl selections were announced.

A LOT of folks got/get bent out of shape when their favorite player doesn't get selected...

I have and continue to hate that bs award.

For the same reasons I bitch about such mundane matters as the dead money hits taken... it limits options on player aquisition... (Grave wanted a Haynesworth--maybe if Sherman had paid the friggin' bills we coulda possibly HAD a friggin' Haynesworth---this is semi-jest, btw)

Nick Collins is a very prime example. I like Nick, but he had a LOT of things going wrong out there on that football field in addition to the things that got him to that pro bowl. I don't want to rehash 'em, (available upon request  ) but I don't want to have to overpay him, or watch him hold out while Ted refuses to overpay him, etc.

He is, after all, under contract--at a nice price for this year, Mr. most missed tackles on our defense (oops, that one slipped out  )

friggin' pro-bowl (Did I mention that :thumbleft: )

Hes set to make $3.045 million in 2009

Damn. We should all take up a collection for him. How in the hell is he supposed to feed his family with that? Oh, and he is a PRO BOWLER dammit!!

I cant stand this...

He is making something like 1000% more this year than last year and is still wanting more?

This is a bit off-topic, but further defines my personal stance on this type of thing.

Ryan Grant and agent played us last year.

It looks like Nick and agent intend to do the same thing.

I am a "team" guy. This gets confused with a "Ted" guy. I don't care about the confusion, because I think Ted is a "team" guy also.

There are many "player" guys out there. I understand that. It is a different version of the fandom, imo.

I also totally understand the mercenary nature of these players and their agents. (I have posted much on this subject, not trying to belabor the point---short version is they want that guaranteed $$$, etc.)

Back to Grant and last year.

I like Grant the player. I do not like Grant the player in the hostage-taking in the midst of the fiasco.

If I were Ted I would cut his ass so friggin' fast he'd be in Illinois before he knew what just happened to him the moment it was viable to do so.

Even though I understand why he did it.

Fortunately for my fellow Packer fans, Ted is a nicer guy than I am. :thumbleft:

So Nick says his has family issues, which have been accounted for. His agent, who has that familiar agent slime by default, is publicly saying another thing in order to squeeze the Packers testies for a new contract and hmm signing bonus.

Two things are apparent...

1. Nick and his agent need to get on the same page, talk about pathetic less then 3 days apart.

2. At the moment, because we have been programmed to, we start to jump upon the player, even though he counteracted the agents slime earlier in the week and is on tour right now with the Packers.

On second thought, as I am writing this.. I see the irony of my gullibility... Nick is away from his family now. That is unless Nick starts participating in the camps.. then maybe said issues were resolved.

So in conclusion.. why in the hell can't players communicate properly.. though agent or directly.. is this really that complicated.. say what you mean. Once. Then stand upon those words.. suffering from Favreitis maybe?

ALL reasonable assumptions. Pretty charitable on your part, also. This is how you roll, and I understand that.

How about good cop, bad cop?

This is how I roll. Like I said, I'm not as nice as either Ted..or you.

My personal speculation is that Collins is being more or less honest, but to use the athletes' cliche, he's "letting his agent do his job," which is, of course, to get his client more money. We've seen athletes report to work despite their agents' bluster in the past, so we may see that again here. Or we may be in for another Ryan Grant situation, in which case I'll lose as much respect for Nick Collins as I did for Grant.

Peter King had this  to say about the Nick Collins situation:

Re: Nick Collins, the Green Bay safety, being dissatisfied with playing the final year of his contract at $3.045 million: Come on. You're kidding, right? When Collins did his five-year contract, the Packers put an escalator clause in his contract, adding a $2.5 million incentive clause if Collins reached certain performance levels. He reached those incentives, and so the Packers added the big bump to his scheduled $545,000 salary. So what exactly is the problem here? The clause was put in to make sure Collins would not get screwed in the final year of his contract, and he absolutely is not. He's a top 25, top 30 NFL defensive back. He's not Troy Polamalu, not Ed Reed. I daresay, yet, he's not even Polamalu's running mate in the Steelers backfield, Ryan Clark. And he wants monster money. I'm told there's a good chance the Packers are going to let him sit and have no intention in re-doing his contract. They shouldn't.

I completely disagree with Peter King.

Collins has always been a solid tackler, good hitter, wraps up his guys and takes them down. His run D has been solid.

My big bitch about him was in '07 when he kept dropping INTs. Well, in '08, he led the NFL in INTs returned for TDs, so that solved my only complaint about him.

I want to see him starting for the Packers in game 1.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
