So i was looking around and i came up on the 2004 season. The packers forced only like 4 more points then the 08 packers. They both allowed the same amount of points(380). Yet the 04 team was 10-6. So it just made me question. So i started looking at what the packers did different in their wins this season then their losses. I don't really know if these really mean that much but i thought they were interesting,

When Ryan Grant runs 90+ yards in a game the packers are 5-1.

In all 6 wins the Packers rushed for 100+ yards.

So then I looked up how Rodgers peformed when Grant ran for over 90+ yards. Here is what i came up with:

123-171 72.5 comp% 1402 yards 11 TDs + 2 rushing TDs 2 INTs 112 qb rating.

Is this all just a coincidence or is grant and the running game the key to succeeding?

I know the Packers' record when Ahman Green ran for over 100+ yards in a game was extremely high as well, but I can't seem to find the statistics online. His personal web page hasn't even been updated since 2004.

I am kneeling... Praying... and Begging... That Aaron does no come close to the 4,038 Yards he threw for last year.

I hope Aarron throws for 3,500 yards... He is smart in the pocket, and not a selfish player... All will be well in Green Bay if Arron threw for 3,500 yards THIS YEAR.

That would mean the Packers had a running game that it. was working.

I hope we utilize a two back system more this year. BJax is pretty flashy and if we can split thier carries I think the running game will be more productive. Grant needs to step up though. This is his year to prove he's worth that starting job, IMO.

If we have an effective two back system with the talent we have at QB and WR we'll be pretty good.

I always find this such a weird stat. Mainly because you usually keep running because you can, not because you want to get over a 100 yards to get a gauranteed win. It usually tells more about the defense for me than the offense. Just look at Rodgers' numbers in those same games.

He went over 100 yards 4 times this year. Like Cheeseheads said, we went 3-1 in those games. The 1st 100 yarder was against Indy. Indy without Bob Sanders. Everyone knows that you should run on them like crazy. And Rodgers had a very good game as well. Maybe he was supported by the run a little, because they had to get more in the box, but Grant wasn't all that effective. 105 yards on 31 attempts for a 3.4 yard average.

The Chicago slaughtering. I don't know what happend here. They just sucked that day. Jackson was running wild, Grant was running wild, Rodgers was passing all over the place and the defense actually got sacks. I think that this one has somethign to do with the run, but from what I've heared, the Bears where dropping into more cover 3s etc. because they didn't fear our run game at all. Just a busted gameplan to me.

The Houston game. Our whole offense performed pretty well. The last Lions game, well, we had to do well, really.

So we obviously play good when he's over 100 yards. But I don't think that our success is tied up to Grant that much. I mean, we usually win if the defense gets 3 interceptions. We tend to win when Rodgers goes over 300 yards (Asuming we're not playing catch-up and just are pass happy).

And like said before, you just run a lot more when you're winning. It's more the other way around really. When the Packers are winning, Grant rushes for more yards.

Looking back at my post, I forgot what I wanted to say with those game summarys. But you get my point on the last paragraphs.

I think 'regardless of how our defense plays, if we can get the running game going and our offense performing at near 100% we can still have some success this year.

I stated in the "Screw the run thread" the key to a consistent offense (all four quarters) is to have a balanced offense.. on that can run and pass effectively.

You can win with a offense heavy in one direction or the other.. but sooner or later you are going to run into a DC that will force you out of your bread and butter.. gotta be able to knock them over the head with either.

So often last year our games started to go downhill when Mike McCarthy took the momentum away from our offense by insisting on being "balanced." I agree that ideally, you should be able to do both well, since opposing defenses will attempt to put you out of your comfort zone, but I still think you need to focus on your strength. As Zombieslayer pointed out in that other thread, you don't have to have a great running game to have success. Last year the Falcons lead the league in rushing and made it to the playoffs. The Cardinals were dead last in rushing and made it to the Super Bowl.

So this year, if I see our offense steamrolling through defenses and then have to watch Mike McCarthy dial things back in the name of balance, and if that takes the wind out of our sails like it did last year, I am going to star losing faith in him as a coach. Bring back the 2007 McCarthy, please!

Zero2Cool (40m) : Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million extension
Zero2Cool (4h) : I know we moved on. That tidbit just makes me a touch happier.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train

Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.

Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage

dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.

Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
