I love the idea of trading a player entering his 30s, in the last year of his contract for a 1st round pick. Who might we get value for in the same way?

As the saying goes, better to get rid of a player a year too soon rather than a year too late.

The only equivalent I can come up with is Donald Driver. Either he or possibly Chad Clifton, though I can't imagine anyone trading for a guy who's had so many knee operations.

Driver is past his prime.
Seymour is in his prime.

I'd have to say, Nick Collins. But, that's not fair or consistent with what I just said above, because he has not entered his prime.

Which then leaves me to, Aaron Kampman.

Yeah, Kampman for sure.

I think Kampman is the obvious equivalent, the real questions is would you do it?

I've often thought about trading Kampman near week 6 if he wasn't working out in the 3-4. If he wasn't getting much pressure and able to cover guys by week 6 (seems unfair for Kampman) I would definitley take a raiders 1st round pick or maybe even a straight up trade with panthers for peppers who wanted to play in the 3-4 at the end of last year.

What do you guys think you would do with an under performing Kampman a thrid of the way into the season?

Trade him to a team for a 1st round pick.....Peppers might work out but he's also getting old (I think....correct me if I'm wrong) as well.

Peppers is 29 hes about the same age as Kampman but he has about a years worth of experience as an OLB if I remember correctly.

People seem to be overvaluing first round picks? have we had success with any first round picks other than nick barnett recently?

probably have but sitting in class right now none seem to come to mind.

I'd much rather keep kampman until he retires rather than trading him away for a first round pick we seem to be likely to not get good value out of. Unless of course hes all wrong the 3-4 then I guess I couldn't complain.

the patriots always seem to come up with some scheme involving an extra 1st round pick though. who did they have to replace seymour?

Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
