In grading the film, the coaches deemed Barbres mistakes to be technical errors and not cases of being overpowered and outmatched. If Barbre had been outmatched physically, he almost certainly would have lost his job. But because they were errors in techniques and fundamentals, theyre willing to give Barbre another shot.

OK, forgive my ignorance as I'm not the resident expert at blocking, but Barbre looked like he was outmatched physically. There was one play where Ogunleye threw Barbre with one hand the way Reggie White used to do that to OTs. Can someone explain to me how that's not being physically outmatched or is Mike McCarthy talking out of his butt?

Actually I thought it was mostly technique; a split second slow off the snap, poor foot placing (steps, his first step especially) and then over extending his upper body.. Additionally I don't think he used his arm length to his advantage with a punch off the snap.. he never got the defender to adjust or widen his angle and they beat him with speed.

There is no way Barbre should've gotten thrown around like that. I don't think it was a matter of strength so much as he completely lost focus of his fundamentals, had no strong base, didn't have his weight dropped, etc. etc.. It could be something as simple as him trying too hard, which led to him being more upright, stiff, and easily pushed off balance. Back to the fundamentals.

If its poor technique, then the coaches better fix it. I don't want to be hearing that we are still working on Barbre's "footwork" or "pad level" 4 weeks from now.

Why the angry tone in my post? Because Mike McCarthy has been slow to correct problems in the past, and I don't want Rodgers leaving the field on a stretcher.

This I agree with.. and this is why yearly I point to Campen and Fonteno for the assignment of blame.. we are developing lineman at two slow of a pace for this league.. it took 4 years to get Colledge to get his leverage point to where it needs to be.

Everyone wants to blame the scheme, I think it is a combination of the teachers not familiar with technique blocking.. both relied on power blocking in their playing days.. and in my opinion that shows yearly.

If Rodgers gets his head taken off and is taken off the field because Allen Barbre failed to block his man...I want Mike McCarthy's head right behind it.

Look at my sig. You think I'm a Mike McCarthy hater?

It surprised me how many times Barbre was only getting one hand/arm on Ogunleye.

Yeah, the way those trophies obscure MM's face, you're definitely a Mike McCarthy hater. That's straight up passive aggressive hate right there.

I am angry as well. I'm a HUGE Aaron fan and cringed with some of the hits he took.

I'm tired of hearing about pad level. Isn't that something that coaches are supposed to fix before the real games start? If I'm not mistaken, Barbre was beaten 7 or 8 times. 7 or 8 times! That's unreal. That's like what Reggie White used to do, and Ogungleye is good, but no Reggie White.

I haven't heard that in ages.. back to some of the football camps in the Midwest.. Z's in the knees..

Anyway.. I wish we as fans had access to more film angles on the plays, I actually thought the Interior of the line played well.. the edges.. yeah I can see that.. backs and TE's pickups.. yes..

Damn restrictions of tape access. lol.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/59277057.html

On whether, then, he's at a loss to explain the struggles:

"I'm not at a loss, I know exactly what happened. Fundamentals. I know you guys get tired of hearing that stuff all the time. You guys report enough football. Go put on the tape. You know hand placements, footwork and you know body angles and Zs in your knees -- all those fancy terms coaches use. Put on the tape. It is flat fundamentals. Their guys being stronger or better than our guys? It is zero of that."
