I'll have my first post be about Al Harris and the creature that he is...

What a tough dude! I hope he gets better soon and gets back out on that field ASAP cuz we are gonna need him if we're serious about winning it all this season. What this will do though is give guys like T. Williams and P. Lee time to maybe develop into starting CB's

Physician: Well, Mr. Harris, what we have here is a potentially life threatening situation.

Al: I want to play next week.

Physician: That will be impossible, we have yet to determine the nature of the rupture, be it a tear or perhaps a laceration.

Al: We're gonna kick Tampa's butt.

Physician: Perhaps there is some possibility that you will return to the NFL.

Al: What time's practice today?

Physician: I'm not sure you have a firm grasp on this situation, Mr. Harris.

Al: Yank that piece of crap outta me, I got a friggin' game to play.

Al's agent is reporting that he has a small laceration (tear) of the spleen. It is not ruptured. He states that in the comments section of this post:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2008/09/harris-hopes-to-return-in-2008/

I'm not sure on the exact recovery time. I think it all depends on how much risk you're willing to incur upon returning to the field. At any rate, I fully expect to see Al back on the field this year. Possibly sooner rather than later.

McCarthy says Al is out at least 3-4 weeks. It sounds as though they expect him back at some point.

I wonder if Harris is considering using one of those hyperbaric chambers... I hear Hawk uses one, and I'm pretty sure TO used one that season he broke his leg when he recovered just in time for the playoffs.

Update from Al's agent. Not much here, but I figured I'd share it anyhow.

As of 2:00 pm PST I have received information from the 3rd and 4th opinion doctors regarding Al Harris internal injury he suffered last Sunday.

Simply put, all opinions and analysis of the spleen trauma have come back with consistent results. There is a laceration of the Spleen which, at this point, will not require surgery. The course of action is rest to promote healing. Al will have additional CT scans taken again in a few weeks. No other time lines have been, nor will be set until after the scans have been evaluated. Therefore, we are in a wait and see mode as to how well Al heals over the next few weeks.

For Now, I want to congratulate Al on his 175th straight appearances as a NFL player. This is one heck of an accomplishment and a testament to your hard work, dedication and your professionalism.

Seemingly impervious to injury, has not missed a game in his career, playing 175 straight contests (160 regular season, 12 in the playoffs), which includes starting all 85 games the Packers have played since his arrival in 2003 (80 regular season, 5 playoffs)

In 160 regular-season games (101 starts), has 19 career interceptions among 131 passes defensed, and 412 tackles (355 solo)

All those associated with Pro Football know what a herculean feat this is for any player.

Stay tuned for more updates on Al in the upcoming weeks.

Quite a turnaround. Not only good news for his long term health, but a surprisingly good prognosis for this season.
