Former Packers vice president Andrew Brandt has been hired by ESPN to serve as a National Football League business analyst.
Currently, Brandt is the president of National Football Post, an online site about the NFL. Brandt writes a column for the site. He also teaches at the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School of Business.
Brandt said in a telephone interview Wednesday he will continue to write for NationalFootballPost.com and teach at Penn, while adding his new ESPN duties.
Ill be busy, Brandt said.
Brandt was with the Packers from 1999 to 2008. He negotiated players contracts and managed the Packers salary cap.
In a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon, Brandt declined to disclose the financial terms of his deal or the length of his contract with ESPN.
Brandt outlined what he will be doing for the network.
Im to provide insights, from my experiences in football, about short-term, the ongoing labor negotiations and potential lockout, Brandt said. Beyond that, the business of football and everything involved with that.
That business includes free agency, trades, salary caps, assembling rosters, managing rosters, structuring contracts and releasing players.
Kind of everything beyond the games, trying to look beyond who is winning and who is losing, into what goes on behind the curtain, Brandt said.
When asked when he starts for ESPN, Brandt said he already has appeared a few times this week on ESPN platforms talking about the mediation in the collective bargaining between NFL owners and players, as well as what teams can do or are doing now to deal with the possibility of a lockout.
Brandt said he will continue to reside in Philadelphia and will travel to ESPNs studios in Bristol, Conn., when required.
