I'm kind of surprised we didn't put any tender offer at all on JJ and BJ. I may be off a year, but I thought they were both 4 year players who would be restricted FAs, with the Packers getting some kind of compensation if they leave. Now they'll be UFAs, with no compensation.

The article didn't discuss Bigby, and mentioned a Browns WR, but the article title wouldn't fit so I modified it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/05/brandon-jackson-james-jones-chansi-stuckey-among-those-non-tendered/

There wont be any transactions in the NFL during the next week, but a few of t weeks moves continue to slowly leak out. Or non-moves in this case.

Heres a quick round-up of notable players we learned were not tendered contracts as restricted free agents, making them unrestricted free agents when the new CBA is reached. (A few other notable non-tenders are right here.)

Packers running back Brandon Jackson: Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers only placed tenders on guard Daryn Colledge, kicker Mason Crosby, and fullback John Kuhn.

Not placing one on third-down back Brandon Jackson is a bit of a surprise because the team is expected to try to bring him back. With that said, Ryan Grant and James Starks are clearly ahead of him in Green Bay.

Packers wide receiver James Jones: Its hard to imagine the Packers paying the type of money it will require to retain Jones. We think someone will give him a nice deal as a potential starter. Safety Atari Bigby was also not tendered a contract.

Browns wide receiver Chansi Stuckey: Non-tendering Stuckey is a bit of a surprise because he led the Browns wide receivers with 40 catches last year. Not placing a tender on him may just be a recognition they dont want to sign Stuckey long-term. The Browns need to get faster on the edges; Stuckey plays the slot.

No huge surprises. As the article says, it will probably be hard to hold onto Jones. Jackson can probably be had for cheap, though. The reasoning is simple: Jones will be worth more to some other team as a starter than he is to the Packers as the #3 or #4 guy, while Jackson won't be any more than a third down back anywhere, and he's worth more to the Packers because he knows the offense.

1) Don't forget compensatory picks as compensation (if in the CBA).

2) Ted can still sign unrestricted free agents as soon as it is legal to do so.

3) Ted is upgrading the roster.

4) Ted doesn't negotiate scared. He negotiates with balls of steel.

This is just my observation, but from James Jones' body language at the Super Bowl ceremony: I get the feeling he doesn't really like Green Bay. I had very high hopes for him, but he has dropped too many passes for me to consider him a must keep player.

Besides, like his predecessor, Rodgers makes his receivers look a little better than they are.

Yeah, if we tendered Jones, we wouldn't be able to negotiate, right? Being that he's not "one of our players," we could still sign him. I'm vague on the rules there.
I do think they at least try to sign Jones. He's gonna be the #2 this coming year. Probly Bjack too. Just in case. Can always cut or trade him after TC.
What Nagler said on Ctv was that Jones' agent hadn't returned the call, so it was unknown whether or not they tendered him.

I wouldn't cry about losing any of them. B-Jack is a dang good blocker and of the 3, he's the one I'd miss the most. I was a big Jones fan but he keeps dropping TD passes. Unacceptable. Bigby seemed to hit a wall and I don't think he'd ever be a dominant player.

I saw his body language a the ceremony too, but had a different impression. I thought it wasn't because he didn't like GB, but because he felt he let the team down with all his drops in the playoffs, and wasn't really a part of the win. Greg Jennings had to literally call his name for him to join the WR core on stage. JMO, but you could definitely be right.

Personally, I think we need to move on from Jones anyway. He has had way too many drops, and he is no longer dependable. Also, as Greg said, he will no doubt be offered a lot more money from other teams than he would from GB since other teams will see him as a #1 or a #2, whereas GB likely doesn't seem that way. I trust Ted Thompson will find a good sleeper WR in the draft, as he has a great history with picking WRs.

As far as B-jax goes, I'm not surprised we didn't tender him. He is outstanding at blitz pickup, but Starks showed in his limited playing time that he could do a good job at picking up the blitz also. B-jax has shown he isn't a starting RB(at least in our system), but he will be 3rd on our depth chart. Like Jones, a team will overpay for him. The only area we might miss B-jax in is the screen game/receiving game. He has shown the best hands of all our RBs IMO, but at the same time, I have no reason to think Starks can't catch the ball.

As far as Hall, no reason to retain him IMO. John Kuhn is Korey Hall 2.0. He does everything Hall does, but better. Also, Hall has had difficulty staying healthy. The one I'm curious about is QJ. I think his contract has expired also. I haven't heard anything about him yet. I wonder if he will be back?

Quinn just completed the second year of his four-year rookie contract. It's possible that he could get cut, though, as the logjam at fullback continues.

With how Nelson played late, even with the drops he had, I felt like he was coming into the #2/3 spot(With Jones being the 3/4). We've seen steady improvement from Nelson since he got here, whereas Jones actually looked his best in has rookie year. Jones had his best year since his rookie year, but drops too many easy TDs.

I think with how Nelson played in the playoffs, he really solidified himself here in GB. If you think about it, had Nelson caught that 2nd TD in the superbowl, you could have made a good argument that for him being the MVP of that game. He came up big(mostly) when it counted, and I dont think you can say the same about Jones.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though

Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
