I don't understand the negativity towards Jermichael Finley from some of you.

He's going to be the best TE in the NFL, so why would we get rid of the best target Rodgers has? Imagine when we would have to play against him. I don't see anyone on our team right now with the capability of covering Jermichael Finley.

keep #12 armed and dangerous.

the O flows through rodgers, Driver will be gone soon, and finley is clearly a favorite target of rodgers and MM. (that's 2 big votes)

Quarless was quite last year.... but he was a rookie. Finley didn't do much his rookie year ether. Quarless can move great... he needs to learn to finish though by catching the ball and holding onto it.

As for another TE great. I think Mike McCarthy like TEs and the mismatches they bring. He's kept 4 TEs two years... why not make it three?

As for Finley make the kid an offer if he doesn't like it, ask him what he would like, if you don't like that then franchise tag him (which TE tag has been cheaper than other positions)...

After he's franchise tag (assuming you can still tag guys) you can then work out a long term deal, hold him for a year and let him go, hold him for a year and tag him again after it.... or trade him. Simply.

I have nothing against Quarless but I don't think he's even CLOSE to JF. Yes, it took Finley time to show what he's got but he was the youngest player in that draft and was projected to be...well... a project.

I think Quarless will be o.k. but he does not have Finley's ability to get OPEN like Finley does or catch the ball the way Finley does. These DB's can't guard Finley. When he's not wide open he uses his body so well to shield the ball it's like taking candy from a baby.

He's the #1 Offensive threat Rodgers has. Need a short pass for a 1st down? No problem. Beat a DB deep? No problem. Redzone. Big problem... for the other guys. When you add up all the ways this guy can help he is our #1 guy.

If this team remains a GREAT team and one that is very hard to beat for years to come it's because they have been able to keep guys like this on the team. You go from great to average replacing guys like this with guys like Quarless.

My point was people (including you) are comparing Quarless as a rookie to 3rd year Finley.... when Quarless as a rookie did more than Finley as a rookie, yet people are down talking Quarless because he didn't live up to 3rd year Finley of the now and I think that's unfair. It's like judging veteran Favre to rookie Rodgers. I think Quarless did very well for a rookie 5th round pick.

Both of them were drafted as projects so I don't want to here that excuse. Finley was a 3rd round project while Quarless was a 5th round project yet Quarless did more in his rookie year, and Finley has more upside.

And I have to disagree with you about the ability to get open. Quarless was better as getting open then Finley was as a rookie and at times Quarless got wide open just like the current Finley does. (though no question current Finley is better)

The problem is Quarless can't (or couldn't) catch the ball...he got wide open a couple of times and had a decent pass got his hands on it and dropped it.

Finley has more upside but Quarless has a ton of upside too... it's just Finley has been able to flash his and get the hype behind him where Quarless upsets people (pisses them off really) because he gets open and drops passes... which is why Mike McCarthy changed the way he used Quarless... instead of having him catch underneath over the middle, he used Quarless to go deep forcing a S to go with him which clear up room underneath for a WR to cut underneath for a good pick-up.

If Quarless can learn to catch the ball (which I'm not saying he will or can) then I think he could become another great TE.

Why would any receiver want out of Green Bay right now.

Money.

If Finley stays healthy he will put up big numbers and command a large salary. Some people have mentioned the franchise tag, but is it a sure thing that the new CBA will include the franchise tag? If so, the Packers can probably keep Finley. If not, they will have a hard time hanging onto him.

Finley's a great player, but I have doubts about his character. I hope he matures a little this year, or I could see him being disruptive. We are lucky to have a group of really good receivers who are not ego guys (a rare thing in the NFL), but Finley is a bit of a wild card.

Quarless is highly overrated by Packer fans. For one, he doesn't possess the natural ability of Finley. His hands are also suspect and he's stiff in space. There isn't fluidity in his game.

That is just comparing them as prospects. Finley had a higher ceiling and he's about to achieve great things. Quarless is David Martin 2.0 in my view. He'll stay in the league along time, but I don't think he'll ever make any Pro Bowls or All-Pro teams.

Eventually, Finley will.

I suspect they're will be a franchise tag in the new CBA. The disagreements is mainly about a percentage of money. Once that is agreed on, the players will sign up franchise tag and all.

People have said "well we won a superbowl with out him (which isn't true; he was having a great year before he got hurt in wk 5) so we don't need him"

It would be a terrible mistake to allow Finley to walk.

The Packers did win a Super Bowl without him. That's not negative, that's a fact. The roster changed quite a bit from Week 5, up to the Super Bowl, as most rosters do. I could give a rats furry brown hole how well Finley was doing. I care more about how the Packers were doing WITH Finley. Packers were 3 - 2 in the five games Finley started in and if Crosby makes that FG, it's 4 -1. That's what matters, not individual crap.

I also agree, it would be a mistake to "let" Finley walk, however if Finley chooses financial numbers that are blistering the Packers, there may be no other choice.

Yeah, you're right. The roster did change a lot after week 5.

I just think that with Driver being near the end and Jones likely won't be back, we can't afford to lose another weapon. I like having the best receiving core in the league, personally.

Joe Montana won two Super Bowls without Jerry Rice. Don't mistake for a moment that he didn't enjoy having him for his other two Super Bowl wins.

I hope the same applies to Aaron Rodgers and Jermichael Finley in the near future.
