Hopefully with the extra rest Driver did receive this off-season and his better listening skills to the trainers and doctors, he will be able to come close to a 1,000 yard season. However, I agree with him that when you are on a team like the Packers a 600-700 yard season is just as good with the talent that surrounds him.

He does come off as a little paranoid that he might just lose his spot to someone like Jordy and after all his time as a starter for the Packers, you can't really blame him. I think Driver would be the type of player to take a lesser role on the team even though he does want to be a starter. Hoping he doesn't have to take a lesser role this year and shows some glimpses of the old DD.

Actually being the starter is only a name. Who runs the most plays is more significant. And with the 3-4 man WR formations there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to succeed.

What might be more important is who will run the drag routes. Who is going to be the one who runs the crossing routes trying to pick up the extra defenders. And who will be the one who comes in to the presumably open area afterward.

If starting means that much to Driver, let him be on the field the first play and then continue with the game plan afterwards. Problem solved. Or start 3 WR every game and one running back lol...

Wait, would that work?

QB
RB
OL, OL, OL, OL, OL
TE
WR, WR, WR

Yes, it will. There, problem solved.

Starter is nothing more than a label.. especially in the Green Bay system. It is overrated and plays upon ones ego.. nothing more.

As I read it.. and I could be wrong here totally.. but in context that meaning carries more of being a productive member of the offense.

We had a thread early this offseason discussing the same premise.. starter in this offense at WR... was the same as it is now in this aspect. Screw the label and be productive... things will take care of themselves in playing time and recognition.

The only guys that have a legitimate grip on starter/playing time are younger guys just coming up and not getting a chance. Example would be Bishop sitting behind say a Hawk and Barnett waiting for his opportunity for a couple of years.  Driver doesn't qualify in that category.

What I think Driver means as a reduced role is he starts the game, but the "back-up" gets to play more snaps. But the Packers did the same thing in 2009 with Donald Lee and Finley... Lee got the start if they started with only one TE set until week 12. Though I think Finley was getting more snaps.

You guys are all forgetting about salaries, and believe me, there is a difference between the #2 receiver and the #3 receiver. That's why you let training camp decided this shit instead of nostalgic, emotional fans. Hell, some Packer fans would still have Favre at QB and would have missed out on Rodgers. Jorde stepped up last year, and Driver is regressing.

I would love to see him hit 10,000 yards (and get another two rings hehe).

Sorry Zero, but I won't conform on this issue. I don't think Driver is a starter anymore, and I'll never bend over on the idea that you start a guy over somebody that's better. We're already going to lose Jones becuase Driver is staying too long at the party - should we lose Nelson too?

Dear vikesrule jr,

When I skimmed the article, I got the impression that Driver felt he was almost 'owed' the starting position. I disagree with that and I feel every starting position should be earned in training camp. Competition breeds excellence.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.

Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
