1. I think the loss of b-jack will hurt us due to his blocking and ability on the screen. We have to cut somebody at RB though.

2. Is anyone really surprised that Barnett will not be playing with us this year?

3. I am glad we signed Jones. Dominant passing and good D won us the SB last year and keeping these strengths gives us the best shot this year.

3. The loss of Jenkins hurts but we will pick up Jolly to take his place. . .

Dude, "only talented player" in that list is Jenkins? Really?

Firstly, Barnett was injured two years (2008 season and 2010 season) but he gave it his all otherwise. It should say something when beat writers respond in-game that Nick Barnett has to have a serious injury because he hasn't come back on the field (as Tom Pelissero did when the Pack played the Vikings in 08). People may not agree with his attitude - to each his own, really - but it's hard to make the case Barnett isn't talented when he produced well during his tenure here.

Secondly, Brandon Jackson. Dude gave up all of ZERO sacks in his time with the Packers. Considering the playing time he got behind a less-than-stellar O-line, that has to count for something.

As for Chillar: he was our best coverage ILB. Granted he was injured and would not contribute much, if anything, this season, but it's hard to find solid depth at the position. If I'm not mistaken, when Capers turned to his big Okie package, it was Chillar who replaced the Safety.

Finally, Finley would be the absolute worst choice to replace Jones. In 5 WR sets, Jones lines up on the outside. You want your best playmakers lining up in the slot to give them a chance to work mismatches. So moving Finley, arguably our best playmaker, out of the slot would be a bad move.

For the record, Hall - when healthy - has been amongst our best special teams players. He is injury prone and that creates problems, but on a unit that has downright struggled past couple of years, it is hard to say removing its best player will make us better. Definitely hard to say that when Hall's replacement (Quinn Johnson) is definitely one of the lesser players on our special teams.

Second of all you don't need talent to block, you need knowledge and understanding the opposing teams play, good reading of upcoming blitz etc...

Special teams players are expendable.

I didn't mean precisely that Finley would replace the position of Jones but instead his talent is replaceable by Finley's.

I see all_about_da_packers is saying things he can't back up again ... tsk tsk tsk. I still love ya. :)

I'm in agreement with the thinking that Cullen Jenkins is the hardest to replace. I think one of the rookies will fill in admirably for Brandon Jackson, or maybe James Starks will be the third down guy? IF so, he'll have to improve his blitz pick up.

I get the backlash here. I mean, all these guys are talented. All of them are actually very good. But I am in agreement with S4L on some level. The loss of Jenkins is the only one that really really stings, in my opinion anyhow.

The initial post is not bad. It's the thread title that's bad. Jenkins is not the only talented player who was lost, but he is the MOST talented and the hardest to replace. I fully agree with that sentiment. Jones was the second best player who was up for grabs, and they got him back, so I'm happy. We've known for the past five months that Jenkins would be gone.

I am quite positive that Ted and Mike would completely disagree with you on your assessment of the expendableity of ST players.

Still, I agree with what I think you're saying. The Packers loss guys, but nothing game changing. Their core remains intact and their getting guys back. This team should be better this season than last, regardless of the last four days.

I can see there are a few people on this board who think that blocking is easy and doesn't take talent.

Well, if I remember correctly, Joe Theismann's career ended because LT had a free shot on Theismann.

Let's not forget that Brandon Jackson allowed 0 sacks last year. Yes, that is not a typo. Zero. Not one.

Although we know he's not good enough for a 1st & 2nd down back, let's not underestimate his blocking ability. He was by far our best blocking RB.

beast (12m) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (13m) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (15h) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (16h) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (17h) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train

beast (20h) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Thanks Mucky and whomever created topcos for each pick!
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Insane about Kingsley
dfosterf (28-Apr) : Putring it here so Mucky sees it. He was our guy!
dfosterf (28-Apr) : Bowden long snapper Wisconsin. Consensus best LS in college.
dfosterf (28-Apr) : We got Peter Bowde
dfosterf (28-Apr) : I personally interpret that as a partial tear that can be recovered from with rehab
dfosterf (28-Apr) : MLF said Kingsley Enagbare did NOT tear his ACL and did NOT require surgery, and that he is "looking good" for the 2024 season!

Mucky Tundra (28-Apr) : damn those vikings
