I figured that this was an Onion article at first, to be honest...
I know that there was quite some room for Thompson to move up, but let's not forget that he showed little to nothing in the first two years and didn't exactly look like a natural fit in a 3-4 defense. I think that's pretty close to a miss, regardless of the tragic ending to his career.
Anyway, like said before, we still had 8 picks. I'd have some problems with him trading up if that left us with 3 picks or something. I know we need quality over quantity right now, but if you do that for a year or two, three, you'll get quite low on depth and you create somewhat of a gap, running low on talent in a couple of years.
