Please, no one hold your breath waiting for this to actually happen!

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson say it every offseason: It is not the rookies who will make the difference for the Green Bay Packers but rather the returning players.

With that in mind, over the next couple of weeks, we will take a look at some returning players who need to take their game to another level in 2014.

First up is safety Morgan Burnett.

Why he needs to step up: It's not just about living up to the four-year, $24.

Haha well I believe in Morgan. He has shown flashes. I know most people don't like the contract mostly due to the fact that they believe the money received doesn't match the production. I am inclined to agree. However, he has certainly not been a liability as much as some other guys. The hope is that with better performing players around him, that his potential shines through. That is what I am looking for. The contract is done, so now all we can do is hope for more production. I believe that will happen.

His biggest issue is trying to compensate for players around him (mainly next to him) being out of position.

On my list of concerns about this team, Morgan Burnett doesn't even rate.

I don't see how Morgan Burnett could not be a concern of any Packer fan who actually watched him last season. He was pretty bad, and often. The players around him is a convenient excuse, but he still needs to be better. If he can only be a good player if he is playing along with Nick Collins, Charles Woodson, and Tramon Williams at the top of their game, than he's just not that good of a safety, imo. There are a lot of players who would look pretty good playing along with those guys. I would hope Burnett could be more than that. I think he's capable, but I'm not necessarily confident. He's not going to be playing next to another Nick Collins anytime soon.

I hear you on that. I am just an optimistic guy quite frankly. I don't necessarily think he is a solid pro-bowler type but I don't think he is a straight up liability either. He needs to play better no doubt, but so do the guys in front of him.
