I rather like Ted Thompson from what I can tell, and for the most part, I really like how he runs the franchise. I think he could be a little more active in free agency, but I mostly understand why he makes the choices he does. Packers fans will be glad if and when the Packers get two additional 4th round compensatory picks next year. It's all a matter of opinion. If I was Bill Belichick or Ted Thompson, I would be the same way.

One thing I'm certain about is they couldn't care less about appeasing whiny fans like yourself. They're busy running successful NFL franchises and being millionaires.

I'd be happier with actually seeing a SB victory but some 4th round comp picks sound awfully enticing. That, and another divisional championship.

.. As opposed to him saying "I've missed the past few drafts. We need to really improve there." Just more non-speak. Trying hard to not give any answer.

No effort to sign House, he knew he couldn't guarantee House a starting spot, who was behind Hayward as outside CB, so he took the 4th round comp. Ted wanted TW, he upped his offer from 4 to 5 and then to 5.2M for 2 yrs. Now if Ted Thompson felt that Hayward and/or Goodson was not capable, he would have got close enough to Browns offer to keep TW, unless he saw a better UFA to get [unlikely] and then would have pursued that deal. TT's failure to get TW or a UFA shows Ted Thompson believes in the CBs on the roster.

I prefer those odds vs. an over the hill, overpriced, and overrated free agent, or even another season with a player like Tramon Williams. The Packers are only a few good players away from a Championship, if that. The best chance to find a few more good players and keep the veterans Ted Thompson wants (Randall Cobb, Brian Bulaga, Mike Daniels, etc.) is through young, cheap, and talented draft picks. The more higher picks the better, in addition to players like Ha-Ha and Casey Hayward improving.

No, you'd rather wait until Aaron is 34 in the HOPES a guy pans out vs. adding a true difference maker a known quantity to get us over the hump? Ron Wolf would never have done that...he built a D that was a SB defense. Ted Thompson has flailed and failed wasting Aaron's best years. I can't wait to see if our draft choices are actually good and any UDFA's might get stashed on the PS so they can be contributors in 3 years. It really makes sense to do it that way if your goal is just to be good long term instead of GREAT with your HOF QB in his prime. Give me a shot at back to back rings over 10 more years of maybe winning the division by being good.

See, every team has weaknesses, ya cant do what GB in 60's; Pitt in 70's did [and Wolf to a lesser degree] where you collect HOFers overtime and keep 'em for 10-12-15 years. And even then these unprecedented dynasties lost twice in three yr right in the middle of the Run. Teams cant afford to pay all their starters let alone experienced quality vet depth. Having a HOF QB is not what it was; because that guy sucks away 15-20% of the Cap, which harms the rest of the team.
Ted Thompson had control to keep EDSmith by over paying, he didn't because he knew that he had Tretter and quick starting NFL talent through out the draft [Swanson, Stork, Linsley, etc.].
Ted Thompson had control to keep Tramon by over paying.

Keeping Collins was not in TT's control. Ya gotta weakness; but Whaddayado? I know EXACTLY what BOU [Balls out Ufda] would do LOL! He'd run out and sign Dashon Goldsen. Then when you got him in camp and saw he's fool's gold; you'd abandon BPA, chase need, and draft Elam instead of Datone. And for your moves the media would give you a gold star and some nincompoop would post on Packershome, "thank God we promoted Ufda from Packershome de facto dictator to Packers' GM."

Of course anyone who truly knows football knows talent from best to worse is not that different, the quality of a guy's play is largely dependent on scheme, performance of those around him and attitude; and because of this 70-80% of the FA transactions FAIL and 30-40% are epic failures. The short term result of your moves is that Goldsen is not any better than MDJennings so the team's ability to win a SB is not increased. Long term, Elam after 2 years is about to lose his starting job; Goldsen is cut or traded for a very late pick; the money used on Goldson cost the signing of Shields; the dead money cost the signing of Cobb; and there's a hole at DE as D.Jones is ascending to an above average player w/ another team.

This is what Balls Out GM play does Ufda; it doesn't help ya get to the promised land and certainly destroys the chance in subsequent years.

Oh here's another example: Denver loses SB in 2013, the window is closing so in 2014 John Ufda Elway decides to go "balls out" He signs a boat load of FAs: Ware, Ward, Sanders, Talib. In 2013, Denver’s 2 best players Clady and Miller played 2 and 9 games, respectively and both played 16 in 2014; but w/ all these FA and health, DENVER GOT WORSE! And today, because of those 2014 "balls out" moves, which did not work as Ted Thompson and I predicted, now they cant pay D. Thomas, so they must tag making him irrationally mad; and they must let Franklin, Julius Thomas, Knighton, Moore and Irving walk and each is replaced w/ a much lesser player respectively: Shelly Smith [who stinks]; Daniels, V. Walker, Stewart and R. Walker. And Denver is short 2 quality starters on the OL. Again, FA moves that got them no closer to promise land are destroying the odds of winning in subsequent years.

Grasshopper, sometimes the best move is the non move! Ya, it blows with MDJ at safety; but at least dont ruin the next 2-3 years by doing something "balls out stupid."

So many great points being made, only to be wasted on Uffda.

Most of these have been pointed out to him before, by different members.

As long as he can dominate EVERY thread and turn it into a Ted Thompson SUCKS thread he is happy.

The joy in Texas is overwhelming.

I was going to post about this thread, but have no idea what it was originally about.

I take a “for better or worse” view on my Packer brethren. In some ways it’s like one’s kids: they may disappoint you, but ya still love ‘em and ya hope one day they’ll grow up and be more responsible.

In other ways it’s like dealing with a KKK grand dragon. They may have some canned snippet phrases shrouded in Christianity that may resonate w/ some. But the more ya get them talking and responding to [or avoiding] legitimate factual objective argument, the more that the world learns that the KKK sentiment is grounded in pure evil hate and an irrational basic amoral disrespect for mankind.

Pure flaming should be ignored; but concealed in the bombastic irrational rhetoric are what otherwise might be legitimate criticisms of TT, EG, that he does not fully utilize FA; that he is too risk averse and will not make that key move to win; etc. Now will you ever be able to convince a KKK dragon that Blacks are equal through rational argument? NEVER; because he didn’t acquire his beliefs through rational thought. Likewise, you’ll never be able to convince someone that Ted Thompson is good, who acquired their hate for Ted Thompson by an irrational basis [EG because he canned their childhood idle or didn’t activate himself and field an onside kick]. But, some have acquired negative opinions of something Ted Thompson did and/or did not do through rational thinking; these people can move people like me, who tend to believe Ted Thompson is infallible [LOL-remember the first step to sobriety is to admit ya got a problem-LOL] , to a more middle position and vice-verso.

Creative Concept: The ONLY path to winning a SB in this Cap environment is to accumulate numerous good to great 1st contract studs. Once this axiom is accepted; then just about every move/nonmove Ted Thompson makes is understood for its prowess.
