If it would be good enough for Vince, does that make it good enough for you?

Ted Thompson’s decision to cut Josh Sitton was the kind of ruthless personnel move that would have made Vince Lombardi proud.

Thompson doesn’t always operate this way, but the Green Bay Packers general manager on Saturday followed the model of the five-time NFL champion Lombardi by parting with a seemingly key player at or near age 30.

It’s a personnel philosophy Lombardi learned from one of the first great general managers in NHL history and that serves the dual purpose of keeping the team young and the players on their toes.

Sitton’s teammates weren’t any less shocked than you and I were when we heard Sitton was going to get cut. Now they’re all reminded that everyone, with the possible exception of a premier quarterback, is expendable. That’s a powerful message.

L O freaking L. Julius was signed mid 30s...Woodson at 30 as well.

Ted was dying to give 10 mil or more to malcontent Greg Jennings near 30. He just gave a RIDICULOUS contract to a RUNNING BACK who is 30 and nowhere the equal of Sitton. Gave big money to Jordy near 30, too. Keep spinning and justifying a brutal team hurting move.

Lombardi like? Oh man....

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I'm with Uffda. Given what (little?) we know and have to go on how can this be celebrated? We got jack shit for a pro bowl-ish guard being booted out the door. It feels like cutting off the nose to spite the face.

As I've said in other posts, I believe there has to be a good reason for this which I'm hoping will make sense later on, but to attempt to spin this as a good thing as of today, well I agree with Uffda. Kinda seems like Dougherty is drinking the Kool aid.

It may take a few months to a few years to hear the real reason.

Both sides are not saying much so it would appear something bad happened.

I was surprised and not happy with the move , as it seems most here were.

The way I see it, there are 2 things a fan can do.

1. Obsess over it,endlessly search the internet for an answer that will never be found.

2. Except that it happened and move on.

I'm pretty sure when The Packers take the field for practice this week, there won't be a full size cutout of Josh Sitton for them to line up around 😄

I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Sounds like Dougherty is doing a press release for Ted here. I wonder what they gave him to write this.

Lombardi didn't do things just to be ruthless. He did things to win. There has to be more of a reason for this than is being stated.
