Sometimes ignorance is bliss. You don't have to be a genius to see a WR is starting to separate from his coverage. If you have the arm, nothing else matters. I don't see what the big deal is about this, or why it keeps being brought up as this "OMG a Hall of Fame QB didn't know what a Nickel defense was". The knowledge of a defense comes in handy when you're being blitzed and need to spot the extra blitzer and then make sure they are picked up. Otherwise, you get murder killed.
