In the right situation, I think Aaron Rodgers could absolutely win another Championship, maybe two. Give him a defensive lead team with solid coaching that doesn't ask him to do too much, and he'd be hard to stop.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Rodgers traded. Not because I think he sucks or I don't like him. I just don't think he's going to win another Super Bowl in Green Bay, and I think it'd be awesome to see him win one more, even if it is somewhere else (if the Packers can't win it that year). He has his issues, but I'm still a big fan. I'm surprised Rodgers didn't structure his contact to give him more flexibility for evaluating other options late in his career, if needed. Why not?

The Packers can absolutely win with that contract. It would take shred cap management, cutting under performing players, substantial player development, home run draft, a few high-value free agency pick ups, and STAYING RELATIVELY HEALTHY.

I agree that all of these things happening is unlikely. But if the Packers have a great off season, stay pretty healthy, and Rodgers returns to "Very good" play, the Packers will be contenders. That's certainly not impossible.

Packers didn't have to offer a contract. He had a year or two plus two years as franchise.

The Packers need to have a decent and dependable defense that can win games for the Packers, especially in the playoffs. Rodgers has needed this throughout his career, and the lack of it has likely contributed to him feeling he needs to carry the team on his back instead of trusting others. I think the defense is on the right track coach wise, but they must find multiple better players or nothing will change.

That was one heck of an in-depth analysis by Prime.

Amazing how 95% of programming on NFL Network, or any half-time show on any network, has regressed to 2 to 6 guys shouting over eachother and laughing at themsevles, yet the NFL Playbook segments per team are max 4 minutes long per week, per team, if you're lucky.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Anyway, this is complete bullshit, of course. I think it's pretty safe to say that Aaron will have another 3 good years in him. I know he's taking a bit more sacks than most QBs, but he also sat out the first 3 years. Add to that the consantly improving training regimes and how long guys like Brees (39), Brady (41), Manning (38 his last good year) and Favre (39 his amazing Vikings-year) are playing and have been playing well, and I feel like that's a pretty decent assumption.

This year, the Saints look like one of the best teams in the league, while going 7-9 just in 2015. The Cardinals look like the worst team in the league, while going 13-3 just 3 years ago. The Bears were 6-10 and in 4th place in the NFC North, the exact same place we're in now, yet are the number 3 seed for the NFC this year at 10-4. It's nearly impossible to predict ahead 3 years in the NFL.

Our roster isn't as talented as most figured before the season, but it's also far from barren. LDT makes a good point about the young secondary, our defensive line is a pretty darn good one when healthy and even the young guys have risen to the occasion so far.

If we can finally, after 10 years, get a decent pass rush going and get more than one good receiver on the field, we're right back in it. Things you might be able to accomplish in a big part through the draft.

I'm just hoping we're going into experimental mode from here on out and don't ruin our draft position by winning two meaningless games. Drop two more and with a bit of luck you're just outside the top 5 and in the Josh Allen sweepstakes.

Win two more and all of a sudden you're picking around 15 and all the top-notch talent is gone again.

And let's hope the Saints somehow lose in the 1st round of the play-offs in a complete upset. There's some good WR-talent in that mid-20s range.

Teams need good players regardless of their contract status and we don't have enough of them right now. The reason for that isn't because we can't afford them (because of Rodgers) it's that we missed too many times on the ones we thought were those guys.

beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
