I get your point, but lets not forget that we are doing the exact same thing.

And apparently boobs.

And guns.

And, um, assorted other topics.

Oh, and because I like the people here.

But I'm not trying to use the interactions I have here, fun as they are, as a substitute for my real life.

Still, I agree that you make a good point.

That doesn't mean I'm going to join Twitter, though. 😉

I think that FORUMS in a sense are twitter on steroids?

Every thing Non says he hates twitter for, you can hate any forum for same thing

So to me saying twitter is stupid WHILE posting on a forum is a little hypocritical

I don't use twitter or facebook. I have no interest in either.

Missed this post when I made mine before.

Twitter and face book are filled with only people YOU want to discuss stuff with.. That is a HUGE difference in my eyes..forums you more than likely have to deal with people you really cant stand

I dont think people for the most part use twitter for a substitute for real life..Are there some that take it to another level? Of course there are.

But same could be said for any forum

I am sure some have a use or desire for Twitter.. to date.. I haven't found one for me personally.

I used to blog incessantly. I haven't updated my blog since 2005. I used to chat on Yahoo and AIM. I don't anymore. Then I joined Myspace. Haven't checked it in half a year or so. Then I joined Facebook. Now I only log in a couple times a month -- and even then, I have almost all the "apps" blocked. I think I've just moved beyond the need for cyber connection. Or maybe I've just gotten weary of the self-absorption that marks blogging phenomena.

What I like about forums is there is a sense of permanence you don't get from other forms of instant communication, and the point is to discuss topics instead of oneself. For example, I get a wealth of weightlifting information (and inspiration) from the forum I'm a member of that would cost me hundreds of dollars to buy in book form or from lessons. I learn things about the Packers here I wouldn't have found out otherwise.

By contrast, I couldn't care less what someone had for breakfast or how many times a day he showers or why she's pissed at her asshole boyfriend.

I basically only use Twitter to look at others' updates. I tried updating for a bit, but it doesn't interest me anymore.

I like looking at Packer beat writers and comedians. They usually have informative/witty posts that are interesting to read.
