Grant is so frustrating to watch run with the ball. His head is down and he runs blind. I think it's time to either get a new RB coach or find someone who actually has good vision. We have had issues with RB talent as long as I can remember. Either we can't evaluate the talent well or we can't coach them well. Grant does a good job now keeping his legs moving to fight for the extra yards but usually his head is buried into one of our own DL's backs as he fights for that extra yard. Maybe when the coach tells him to run to the light he hears "run to the white." (meaning white jersey)

As for Rodgers waiting for that big play to develop and not sensing pressure soon enough. I have to agree. In the second half of the game it got better so at least he is teachable. I just hope he doesn't always have to wait till the second half to get reminded that sometimes he needs to take the dump off.

I like this article because the author describes two of the very plays I was screaming about during the game (and incidentally, being told to shut up). On the one play, Brandon Jackson was wide open with a clear path to the first down, while on the other, Driver AND Jackson were open. But Rodgers came out determined to throw downfield. Now this may be due to his inexperience, but if that were the case, why did he start dumping it off in the second half? No, clearly, he was following McCarthy's gameplan, which is why I placed (and still place) most of the blame for the first half's performance squarely on McCarthy himself. Yes, the players made their share of errors, but as far as I can tell, Rodgers was doing his best to execute McCarthy's gameplan, even in the face of contradictory evidence. Should Rodgers have adapted? Perhaps, but so should have McCarthy. Screw your script if it isn't working -- throw it in the trash and call some plays that fit the situation.

Some people on this forum have insisted all the short routes were covered, that the Vikings had taken away the short routes. These few plays alone show that that isn't true, and if it was obvious during the game even to someone with as little football knowledge as I, it should have been overwhelmingly obvious to the coaching staff.

Dom Capers, you're watching the game from on high in the booth -- clue McCarthy in on the realities of the field once in a while.

I read the bit about grant in the article ... and to tell you the truth. The author is slow on what hes saying. If he is just noticing now grant isnt up to snuff. Where was he during 08 and the first 8 games this season?

Most of what I saw from grant was a guy running into a big group of guys and everyone just falling down. Nothing like the cool backs we see on other teams and not one making really good $.

oh ya and the part on rodgers; actually had a blerp from sterling sharpe on nfl playbook about rodgers taking sacks. And how he seems to only look down the field and not for something thats up close and holds the ball to long.

Heck you see many QBs throwing the ball away but I hardly ever see rodgers do that. Hes a great QB ... he could just be so much better.

anyways ... ya I agree down with grant; Ive been tooting this for the past year thou.

As far as the Grant discussion, I'll say this: when he gets adequate blocking he's a good running back. That said, most guys at this level are. I'm still hopeful that given an improved offensive line, Grant can give us a season comparable to 2007 -- but that is an "if." We absolutely need to see improved balance on offense. Hell, take away some of the sacks and our run game is even better.
