The NFL policy mandates a four-game suspension for a first offense and a year for a second.

Edit, I bet the NFL considers his testing positive for codeine in his system as failed test one and he failed another test after that which provoked the one year suspension.

Edit2, got a copy of the official drug policy.

I don't see why this decision is being embraced.

Whenever I see Jolly play, he makes a key deflection. He has a nose for that, you can't teach that, and I see nobody else on our defensive line that does that.

Losing Jolly means we lost much needed depth. Gloat on Neal and Wilson all you want, but we don't know what they offer.

Well what did you expect from Jolly this season?

I expected him to be a huge distraction, take up a roster spot and not be able to play until after week 12 because he'll be at his trial which and probably would come back out of shape...

and Jolly does make plays but he also gives them up... he gets out of his gap at times like the Cardinals very long run play Jolly went to the inside instead of keeping the edge and Jones also failed run blocking and they got the long run.

Pickett will make less plays but I feel much safer that he won't make mistakes...

I am glad this decision came out now so we have time to solidify the roster. It appears that Jolly is going to deal with a whole bunch of issues over the next couple years.

On another note, I have nothing but contempt for Goodell. The total incoherence of the punishment system in the NFL sickens me. His ignorant statements against Rush Limbaugh last year was icing on the cake in my evaluation of him as a slack jawed feminine hygiene product. I will wait to see what excuse he makes for Vick's "recent" behavior

Jolly was great last season. But I think we can survive without him.

I think he deserved it.

I think losing Jolly is huge for the D line. But having him out is not a back breaker. Whoever steps in his place will definitily have to elevate their game. Plus, the LB's are going to need to step it up as well.

I can only speak for me, but I also happen to know that many of our fellow members on this site feel pretty much the same as I do.

My fandom does not include rooting for players that evidence serious character flaws. From what I have read, Mr. Jolly was rather heavily involved with the whole sizzurp/purple drank culture...
Some might say his whole deal was an accepted way to roll from whence he came in Texas.
You do the crime, you do the time- period. I don't care if it's Jolly, Aaron- whoEVER. If I want to root for thugs and assholes, I'll become a Vikings fan.

Sad for the man, looks like he couldn't remove himself from his old way of life before joining the NFL.

I was never that convinced by Jolly. He made some key plays but he certainly added no more to us getting pressure on the QB. I'd rather a young guy who played by the rules got a shot.

I feel a guy like Neal (with his stregnth) will give us a better chance on passing situations. Remember we do still have Pickett and Jenkins as our starting DEs so I'm not too worried.

So does he still get a super bowl ring at the end of the year?

Anyway, I've been rooting for Harrell all of this offseason, and I think I've even mentioned it in a few threads here. I think that this year is his year. I think (hope) that he can finally get over his back problems and contribute to our team.

I have faith in you, Justin Harrell.

Talk about p1ssing away golden opportunities... It will hurt Jolly more that the Packers.

Man, it would be great for Harrell to get and stay healthy. Hopefully somebody will step up. We should be OK but it's still a loss to the team.

just seems so unfair and out the blue to smack a whole year on the guy...if this was a QB there would be uproar but it barely twigs on nfl.coms radar!

Just hope other players can step up!
