The 2018 QB draft has been said to have much better looking options than in 2017 QB draft class, and some have speculated teams are trying to get to tank to get the top QB.

1. For example, are the Jets, purposely tanking this season?

The Jets released all but 3 of their players over 29 years old, which just happen to be a lot of their good players including WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker, OC Nick Mangold, LB David Harris, CB Darrelle Revis, S Marcus Gilchrist, OT Breno Giacomini, K Nick Folk

The 3 players that Jets kept over 29 years old. LS Tanner Purdum, RB Matt Forté and DL Steve McLendon... and they did sign Josh McCown, who some believe will be the starter, despite him never playing in 12 games since 2004. Though McCown has put up nice numbers in his last two odd years (2015 and 2013) posting a 25:5 TD to INT ratio, but he only played 8 games those seasons in part because he can't stay healthy.

The Jets owner, Woody Johnson, is even trying to get out of the picture (probably so he has to take less blame) as he's trying to become America's ambassador to United Kingdom.

2. If teams are tanking, does it matter?

Should teams have the right to purposely tank on purpose?

Is it alright for them to purposely struggle to try to get the top draft selections?

How much cap money are they freeing up by getting rid of their vets? Are they tanking or just going young and freeing up space?

Is it tanking, or rebuilding?

Getting the young players who are hopefully going to be part of the team in the future experience, being able to use current salary cap to lock up some future players now so they are not a big burden on the cap in 2 or 3 years.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

If they tank and get a top 3 overall draft pick, they can grab one of the best players in the draft.

But would it bother anyone if a team purposely did bad during the season to get a higher draft selection?

The Buccaneers have been assumed of doing it to get the 1st overall pick which they used on, QB Jameis Winston.

It's almost impossible to legislate against tanking. It has worked for enough franchises in the major sports for others to try it too. It doesn't matter what the success rate is. Even if it is only 1/4 the time. They believe it will work for their organization.

The thing is, even if they get the #1 pick, that doesn't guarantee that the guy is going to be great and "save" their team. Every draft pick is a crap shoot.
So if a team knows it doesn't have a realistic chance to win this year, or even the near future, I don't think it's "tanking" to cut high price guys to start a rebuild. In fact to me it makes great sense.

They also have 7 that would big time negatively affect the cap if cut.  Mostly last year and this year top rounds rookies and new big money FA's.

Did the Colts "Tank" to get Andrew Luck ? I still remember their QB following P.Manning's departure , his name was Painter .

Did Tampa Bay "Tank" to get QB J.Winston ?

If the Jet's do tank this season to get the 1st pick (probably a QB) in the 2018 NFL Draft , then they would not be the first or the last to do so . Also Teams in other sports have been known to "Tank" for higher draft picks as well .

Vegas even gives odds on what teams will finish dead last in their sport/league . Hard , tangible proof that a commissioner can act upon is very hard to come by even if the overall "opinion" says that a team "Tanked" it. [twocents]

Mucky Tundra (18h) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (19h) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (23h) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (23h) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train

dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
