Mulumba, a third-year pro, is coming off knee-reconstruction surgery after sustaining a torn ACL in Week 2 last season, and in the first three days of padded practice he’s rushed the passer better than Jayrone Elliott and Adrian Hubbard.

They’re going for the No. 4 spot at outside linebacker behind Julius Peppers, Nick Perry and the injured Neal — that’s counting Clay Matthews as primarily an inside ’backer. Mulumba hasn’t done his best work in one-on-one pass-rush drills — he’s 1-5 there — but in team periods he’s had several good rushes a day.

Sounds like Mulumba's ahead of Jayrone Elliot so far. Also sounds like they want Adams to make a statement:

Part of the perception probably is skewed by expectations, but it’s hard not to conclude that third-round draft pick Ty Montgomery has been the better playmaker early in camp. And one play involving Adams on Tuesday was a little jarring: cornerback Sam Shields’ leaping interception of a Rodgers throw on a go route.

Shields made an exceptional play, but one of Adams’ assets is his physical strength going after those kind of throws. On that play, he didn’t attack the ball like you’d expect and thus never had a shot at the catch or at least pass breakup.

The smart money says Adams will be the player the Packers were so excited about in June — he’s a highly confident receiver whom Rodgers lauds for already carrying himself like a star. But he’s due for a banner day on the practice field.

Sounds like Goodson's still got a shot too:

Undrafted rookie LaDarius Gunter has passed Demetri Goodson for the No. 6 spot on the depth chart at cornerback, but Goodson helped himself Tuesday by making good plays on back-to-back snaps. On the first, Goodson knocked away a pass to tight end Justin Perillo on in inside route, and on the second he ran shoulder to shoulder with receiver Larry Pinkard on a go route to help cause an incompletion. The latter play drew an excited congratulatory hand slap from cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt.

Neal and probably Perry too are kinda like overripe fruit - getting close to time to throw them out. I'm glad to see Mulumba stepping up; I'm pretty sure Elliot will do the same. Hubbard also has the potential - hopefully he will play up to it. The better these guys do, the clearer the decision to keep Matthews mostly at ILB.

One bad play doesn't make Adams a lesser player. However, I still don't see his ceiling as being as high as Montgomery and Janis. He undoubtedly will stay 3rd among WRs, but given half a chance, I could see those two passing him up at some point.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Janis and Montgomery proved to be better players. I don't see what all the noise about Davante is.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Mucky Tundra (20h) : I may end up eating those words but I think they need a lot more talent then their 4 picks can provide

Martha Careful (23-Apr) : IMHO, not even close. He is not a guy you game play around.
Mucky Tundra (23-Apr) : is Aiyuk worth a 1st rounder?
Zero2Cool (23-Apr) : 49ers are seeking a 1st round pick in exchange for WR Brandon Aiyuk
Mucky Tundra (22-Apr) : Based on Gutes comments, now I don't feel as silly having 13 picks in my mock the other day
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Zach Wilson to Broncos.

beast (21-Apr) : Sometimes looking extremely amazing, sometimes looking extremely lost
beast (21-Apr) : I haven't looked into the QBs, but some have suggested Maye has some of the most extremely inconsistent tape they've seen
beast (21-Apr) : Well it also sounds like Patriots are listening to trade offers, not that seriously considering any, but listening means they aren't locked
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.
beast (21-Apr) : Can't tell if this is real or BS, but some rumors about a possible Patriots/Vikings trade for #3 overall
dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
dfosterf (19-Apr) : The only problem with that is he isn't a guard either.
dfosterf (19-Apr) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (18-Apr) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.
