Maybe they'll take him back as DB coach. Any word on Winston Moss? Bring him back, Matt!

Man that really sucks, he was one of the ones I didn't want to lose, but I was expecting it since it wasn't announced with the DL coach (who's expected to stay).

Yeah I got the feeling that a lot of them were upset about not getting the DC job. And there was one article with Whitt where he talked about not going to teach them anything unless Pettine approves it, because it's his defense, and Pettine reaction to some item, was of course, you don't have to ask, of course you teach that... just seemed a bit awkward.

Though he also seemed professional throughout the season... unlike Moss.

Well, it sounds like we just lost a very good coach... 💤 😞

Just trying to speculate who Pettine might get for the DB, and Jim Leonhard name came to mind. They spend 6 years together, on 4 different teams (Ravens, Jets, Bills and Browns)... so clearly they liked him (as a player) they kept bringing him to his new team.

Does the rule teams can't talk to coaches while they are still in the playoffs pertain to all coaches or just head coach candidates?

I know the teams with byes last week everyone was available to interview.

I don't know whether he was good or not, but I know that we don't need the drama, and it certainly sounds like that was occurring. I think people are experiencing a lot of "who moved my cheese" moments.

We all seem to want change, but then when changes are made (with the exception of Zook) many say "oh no, not him."

Further, I think all these stupid titles and positions like "passing game coordinator" et al are ridiculous. They probably create lines of confusion between position coaches and players.

BTW, Beast, I would love to see Leonard as in GB, but would hate to lose him in Madison.

The playoff rule is that coaches can't interview if they have a game that week.

But the hard part of finding assistants coaches from other teams is that if they're under contract, you must receive permission to interview them. UNLESS it's for a head coach or GM spot. An example being the Packers and Cardinals both prequested permission to talk with 49ers run game coordinator Mike McDaniel about an OC job, the 49ers denied the request.

That ridiculous seems to be the future of football and I think the main people it confuses is the fans. As it's probably fairly simple who to listen to if your in building.

Yeah I was thinking Wisconsin fans were thinking they would hate it, I was just trying to find available coaches from our current coaches past, and for DB coach that was the only one I could find, other than a guy who seemed to be out of coaching for a few years and is back with the Memphis Express of the AAF. So I'm not sure he's coming back to the NFL.

Jim Leonard shouldn’t leave his DC job in Wisconsin. He is doing well enough that a few Big Ten teams might come calling for a head job someday.

I was impressed with Whitt over the first half of his tenure with Green Bay. However, I haven’t seen development from young DBs. Some of that has to do with personnel, but some of that has to do with coaching.

It sort of makes sense that Joe was let go. He's been in GB for 11 years. He was given the confusing and somewhat bogus title "passing game coordinator" last year. Once they stripped that title away anything less than being named DC would be a demotion. Clearly he didn't deserve to be demoted. Since he never really advanced much in 11 years it's best for Joe to get a fresh start someplace else. With 3 very young and somewhat promising CBs in the stable I hope they bring in someone of similar ilk to nurture them along. Whoever it is will have big shoes to fill.

I honestly don't understand why it's been seen as bogus... it's new to Green Bay, but it's been around the NFL for a while.

Focusing on a specific actions (pass coverage as a unit) instead of a single position. It's supposed to get guys on the same page more, but I guess the title.confuses us fans.

I don't think that was confusion, I think it was Whitt being a butthead saying your the boss (not me) so all decisions (even the basic ones) must go through you.

Though that was the only time I heard of Whitt being like that, not like Moss who was a butthead the entire season.

That's a good point. If he's been so great over the last 11 years, how come he never got an offer to DC someplace?

That's assuming the best coaches get hired, when coaching has at many times been more about who you know, more than how much you know.... and looking at who Whitt has coaches with, most of them are in college.

Plus there are very few DC jobs and in recent decade it seems the offense are taking a huge majority of the head coach and jobs leaving even less space for defensive coaches to go upward. There are so many DC to jobs.... I believe Mike McCarthy said Whitt was first runner up to Pettine.

Do you expect me or anyone to know the thought process of 31 GM/Presidents/Owners? He is a decent coach. Good enough to stick around for 11 seasons. I can't say why other teams did not make him an offer.

Dom Capers is a decent coach. Good enough to stick around for 9 years.

Yes we had a tremendous coaching staff. Great head coach with excellent assistants, assistant head coaches, passing game coordinators, great offensive line coach.etc., none if whom we can afford to lose.

We had tremendous front office lead by Ted Thompson and a staff of geniuses who we couldn’t afford to lose, providing is unbelievable talent.

AND WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY SUCKED THE LAST TWO YEARS!!!

Please, lets take off the rose colored glasses.

Funny how their are 8 teams left in the playoffs.
7 of the 8 head coaches are over 50 years old.
So much for the young hotshot guys every team has been clamoring for.

I remember reading where The Packers started 16 different db's in 2018.
16
Let that sink in.
The Packers starting D-line all ended the season on IR.
Aaron Rodgers after missing 11 games in 2017(going 4-1 btw before being injured)(but the team really sucked) , plays all 16 games in 2018 injured.
Becomes complacent and decides week 12 that he is going to quit on his HC.
A HC who should have been let go before the 2018 season as part of a complete overhaul, but we all know who fucked that up.(Mark)

LeFlure will put his coaching staff together.
Gutekunst will supply him the players.

If and this is a big if, Mark Murphy stays the hell out of their way.
I have all the confidence in the world that these guys will get The Packers back to winning.

Every GM wants to put HIS team together.
Every HC wants to hire HIS staff.

This doesn't mean the guys that leave SUCKED FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS.

What it means is they are not part of the future plans of the new GM and HC.

Reading these threads, you would think that other than Ron Zook and Dom Capers, every other coach we had was Head Coaching Material, and Every Front Office guy was the next GM.. That our players are highly sought after by numerous other teams....its laughable.

Sounds like you're bitching for no reason other than to throw others opinion under the bus, not laughing...

The Packers had good position coaches in James Campen and Joe Whitt.... which I know you can't see because your hater glasses on especially for anything Packers OL related.

Most of the coaches haven't even been mentioned... yet your completely overselling your point that fans like a few of them that have recently been let go...
