https://lombardiave.com/2023/03/07/packers-players-free-agents-next-week/

Quote:

Green Bay Packers 2023 unrestricted free agents

Adrian Amos, S
Adrian Amos has played every game since signing with the Packers in 2019. A talented veteran safety who can help any defense in the league.

Allen Lazard, WR
A reliable receiver and an excellent blocker, Allen Lazard can make any offense better. But will he remain in Green Bay?

Mason Crosby, K
Mason Crosby is Green Bay’s all-time leading points scorer and has played every game since being drafted in 2007. An incredible run.

Keisean Nixon, CB
Keisean Nixon was a first-team All-Pro after leading the NFL in kick return yards. The Packers need to re-sign Nixon, who is a great returner and also contributes on defense.

Marcedes Lewis, TE
Marcedes Lewis has been one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL in recent years, but he turns 39 this offseason.

Robert Tonyan, TE
Robert Tonyan is a solid pass-catcher and caught 11 touchdowns in 2020. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Packers brought him back on a one-year deal.

Randall Cobb, WR
One of Aaron Rodgers’ greatest-ever wide receivers. It won’t be a surprise if Randall Cobb’s future is determined by where Rodgers is playing.

Jarran Reed, DL
Jarran Reed had a solid first season in Green Bay but perhaps didn’t make the impact many had hoped, finishing with 2.5 sacks.

Dean Lowry, DL
Dean Lowry had a career year in 2021 but struggled this past season. It feels like a good time for the Packers to move on.

Dallin Leavitt, S
Dallin Leavitt was a valuable special teams contributor for Green Bay in 2022.

Rudy Ford, S
Rudy Ford also contributed on special teams for the Packers and stepped in as a backup safety, making three interceptions and forcing a fumble.

Eric Wilson, LB
Most of Eric Wilson’s snaps came on special teams, where he played well.

Corey Ballentine, CB
Another special teams contributor, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Corey Ballentine is back next season.

Justin Hollins, EDGE
Justin Hollins made 2.5 sacks in six games, showing he can provide valuable pass-rush depth.

Who should we resign? At what price point (High, Medium or Minimum)? And who should we let leave?

The stickler for rules that you are. I'm confused. If you resign someone, how can it be at any price point as they'd essentially be released? 😂

Joke aside, this is good topic to discuss on who to RE-SIGN though. 😋

By that, I meant like, I might say
Resign LB Eric Wilson and CB Crey Ballentine, but only at bare minimum and guarantee nothing, as they have to make the roster to earn their money as they very well might be replaced.

Where some other player, like I might say resign Amos to a one year prove it deal, to make sure he's still got it after a very bad year (for his normal standards) but if someone offers him big money, let him go.

I like Reed. Wyatt should draw some attention, allowing Reed to make some plays.

Rudy Ford. Justin Hollins.

I've loved Amos. Solid vet, always in the right place at the right time. Not sure tho. Is he falling off or is this a Joe Barry effect? Ted always moved a guy a year early, rather than a year late.

Mason Crosby, might have some life left in that leg. Wasn't there an injury or something? Bring him back if he's ok, but don't overpay. He knows how to kick in the Tundra, but again, a year to early is better than too late.

Keisean Nixon might get paid. Make him a deal.

Marcedes Lewis provides veteran leadership, helps out these Ts. Can't run anymore, but can still catch.

Robert Tonyan, if we draft a TE, it's gonna take a year (probably two) to get him up to speed.

Dallin Leavitt, good depth guy.

I think the guys like Ford and other guys who were brought on board for special teams. I think they'll be back. I am guessing Mason Crosby is going to re-sign too. Some of the others listed are probably going to be filled with amazingly athletic 7th rounders 🤣🤣

Gute suggested he thought Crosby's leg would be stronger this year as he wouldn't be coming off surgery like last week.

I would like to see Crosby back. He seemed to bounce back last year and I think another year with a competent special teams coach will be a good situation for him. He probably won't demand a huge salary so I would rather not risk trying to find a new kicker. Also it will be amusing/amazing if Crosby ends up being here before and after Rodgers' time as a starter. Who would have guessed that?

It would be good to see Lazard back too, if the salary isn't too much for a #3 sort of guy. If they let him go they won't really have any established veterans at WR (assuming they do not bring Cobb back either). I doubt this happens though, someone will probably overpay.

I would like to see Amos return too. He's had two years of significant decline here if we go by PFF's ratings. But the defense as a whole had a down year. If the unit plays better next year, I think we might see him rebound. Again, at the right price - mid-level vet contract, not sure if this is feasible though.

I think Lazard is long gone and joining whatever teams pays him the best and has an elite QB.

Mostly likely. Maybe to the Jets even. I just worry about starting Jordan love with no savvy vet at WR - or bringing one in that isn't familiar with him, the system, etc. I think Watson and Doubs are going to be good and I'm optimistic about Toure, I just don't know who Love's safety blanket will be without Lazard.

You got me with this one. I had to read it three times before realizing "week" was probably meant to be "year".  It took me a bit because I saw on Tweeter some folks thinking Crosby had surgery recently, but it was last June/July when he had surgery. So, 2023 season should have a stronger leg for Crosby.

I just don’t understand how Crosby is expected to have a stronger leg, when it was just as weak in week 17 as it was in week 1. Didn’t seem to improve throughout the season, so what’s an off-season going to do for an old man?

Sorry, but yes you figured it out correctly. Gute was suggesting his leg would be stronger this year after no surgery, when it was weaker last year coming off surgery.

I was thinking the same thing, but the season potential could keep you wore down especially when Crosby is also dealing with a recurring back injury.

I'm not saying Gute is correct, because I question it like you, but in theory an offseason could let a guy stop, fully recover and then work on strength (leg and back), when he never got the chance to do either during the season.

Also, I wanted to move on from Crosby, but looking kickers in FA and the draft, I don't see great options. The PS Kicker looked the most interesting, but one game he was actived he got injured during warmups, so can you trust him? Also, he (self admittedly) isn't the smartest.

I don't think we're going to find the long term future answer at kicker this offseason.

Players often complain about Thursday games because their bodies do not get enough time to recover. As I am sure you know, the older we get, the more time our body needs to recover. Mason Crosby is no spring chicken (wtf does that saying even mean?) anymore so it's probably safe to assume his leg was getting stronger as the season went on, however, the progress was stunted by the duration of the season. He'll have a full off-season to rehab and build the leg strength up rather than just recover from surgery.

Aside from Punting and Kicking being different in their respect, it's also why teams need one of each. If you used just one for both, they'd have dead leg by Week 12-14.

Would like to see these four Vets get resigned, but not going to be shocked if they're not.

1. Adrian Amos, S
2. Mason Crosby, K
3. Robert Tonyan, TE
4. Dean Lowry, DL

I think these 5 will be back.
ST guys who all filled in at times at their positions.

1. Dallin Leavitt, S
2.Rudy Ford, S
3.Eric Wilson, LB
4.Corey Ballentine, CB
5.Justin Hollins, EDGE.

I figured Gute will sit out the 1st wave of "crazy money" FA.

The unknown with AR, is preventing any huge move.
Even when it gets resolved , The Packers need to start getting their Salary Cap numbers inline.

I agree with everybody you just said except for Lowry. If he’s on the field for any length of time, we have problems.

I'm with you, not sure why you'd want Lowry back unless it's extremely cheap like less than half of his last contract.

I wanted DT Reed back.

Usually I'm a huge DT Clark supporter and argue he's among the most underrated in the NFL, but last year, last year he was average, that concerns me. So I hope they get another DL with potential, just in case.

Also, yes please to S Ford back, he played well at times at Safety as well.

I'll spare everyone the "at a fair price" comment here.

I'd retain Amos and Crosby but challenge the shit out of them in training camp. I suppose I can't really say they should re-sign Ford and Ballentine eh? I would like to see Leavitt and Wilson back though. Solely because if they make the roster, I think it makes Special Teams gooder.

I'm a bit surprised, as I believe I read he was visiting the Giants. But that's a good price for a guy that was flashing a bit in a rotating backup role.

Also surprised Amos hasn't signed with anyone yet, it seems like the Safeties in general over expected the market but most of them are signed to at least a one year deal.

Also the Eagles supposedly offered Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson more money before FA, but they declined expecting more in FA and it never happened, so he signed for less with the Lions.

From what I've read --- Eagles offered him three year deal for $24 million, but in the first two years only $7 million of that was guaranteed between years one and two. Lions offered him one year $8 million guaranteed.

Amos visiting Ravens.

Is he aging or does Barry not know how to use his safeties?

This is baseless nonsense! Obviously he knows how to use Safeties! The problem is he thinks cornerbacks need to line up next to them 15 yards back!!

go.pack.go. (2h) : Price will depend on how big the tree is, liability that it includes such as threatening a house, building, fence, etc
go.pack.go. (2h) : I am a procurement forester but I help with tree work on the side from time to time. Learned all about it in college and whatnot
go.pack.go. (2h) : No more tree of course
go.pack.go. (2h) : Tree removal is very expensive, and yes tree companies should remove the tree from your property all together and leave your place looking as if they weren’t even there. Except for there being no more
Zero2Cool (5h) : I wasn't expecting it to be cheap. I was thinking the three in front maybe ~1,500 but i could buy a stump grinder for that.
dfosterf (5h) : It's not going to be cheap. Certified arborists make good money. You cannot do A or E without one. If D fell on the house it looks like it would be no big deal, but the picture might be fooling me.
Zero2Cool (5h) : I have a feeling these trees being removed gonna cost me lot more than I was bargaining
Zero2Cool (5h) : I haven't had much issue ever will drills. I have a pretty firm grip. BUT I also haven't had a chainsaw in my hand while trying to balance on a ladder
Zero2Cool (5h) : Hmm, maybe I just use my sawsall to cut it down. I'll be back in four months.
dfosterf (5h) : Ever had a drill get stuck in the work and twist your hand? Exact same speed as a chainsaw kickback. I don't think even batman dodges that.
Zero2Cool (5h) : WTF is the dark knight doing cutting down dudes trees!!!!
Zero2Cool (5h) : Not a worry, I'll wear my Batman suit!! Imagine the photos!!
dfosterf (5h) : Oh oh, lol Chainsaw accidents average 80 stitches in the emergency room according to the US Forest service. 🤣
Zero2Cool (5h) : holy crap, you can rent a 35 ft lift for $300 for a whole day??
Zero2Cool (6h) : I'll post pictures. One of them is probably 50 feet tall
dfosterf (6h) : I'm sure when he gets his estimates they will render opinions on his plan
dfosterf (6h) : Or dumped, depending on the truck
dfosterf (6h) : Thing is, if he's hiring a tree service, my guess is we are talking some big trees. That shit usually gets craned on and off the chipper shredder truck.
beast (6h) : That's why some wooden ramps can be nice. And heck, you got the wood with the tree. Turn it into a ramp, wheel barrow the rest onto the truck 😋
dfosterf (6h) : I don't know the diameters you'd be dealing with, but tree sections are almost invariably a hell of a lot heavier than they look
Zero2Cool (6h) : Eh, that's not right. It's more like three an half feet. Still sucks loading things into it.
Zero2Cool (6h) : Damn tailgate is almost four feet above ground.
Zero2Cool (6h) : Considering there's no way in hell I can lift something much longer into my damn truck, shouldn't be problem!
Zero2Cool (6h) : Wood must be cut to 4-foot sections to be accepted at the Waste Transfer Station.
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Zero2Stumped
Cheesey (7h) : Sounds like ZERO is....STUMPED! LOL!
Zero2Cool (7h) : Basically cost of cutting tree x,y and z individually, and cost of stump grinding per tree and clean up haha
Zero2Cool (7h) : I have stump grinding listed too as question. I feel kinda bad cuz I got like five quotes I want haha
dfosterf (7h) : Don't forget about the stump. That you can diy, but stump grinders are expensive to rent. They are a bit of a beast to operate, too.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Ugh. I'm so damn ignorant on this stuff!! Thanks for the heads up.
dfosterf (7h) : Some of the municipality dumps that accept tree debris have a maximum diameter that they will accept, so you might want to check on that before deciding on who is taking the tree
Zero2Cool (7h) : Packers announce Family Night will be held August 5th
Zero2Cool (7h) : I'm not sure what to expect, never did this before and first place comes today for estimate. I just compiling list of questions haha
dfosterf (8h) : Kidding aside, you sure they aren't coming back for it? Maybe went to get the chipper shredder?
dfosterf (8h) : Unless you hired the tree cut down and left company, which we don't have in our yellow pages 🙃
dfosterf (8h) : Well, it's called tree removal, so you'd think removal would at least be part of the conversation 😉
Zero2Cool (9h) : Looks like there's a public works spot near me that I can just dump it at. That might save me a few bucks
Zero2Cool (9h) : When you have a tree removed, do they commonly take the tree or is that on you?
dfosterf (10h) : I missed those comments. Curious as to what Bakhtiari said...
Zero2Cool (11h) : Sean Rhyan seems to have been raw deal with what got him suspended. At least, based on David Bakhtiari's comments. Too soon to really know about the kid yet
go.pack.go. (12h) : Dfoster, what’s wrong with Tucker Kraft?
go.pack.go. (12h) : Cheesey, yes I’ve been extremely busy lol
dfosterf (4-Jun) : Slip a kid standing outside the stadium 20 bucks and let him make the pick going forward. That collective obviously cannot.
dfosterf (4-Jun) : By any reasonable criteria to date, Sean Rhyan was the worst pick in the 3rd round last year
dfosterf (4-Jun) : Thus far, out front office failed yet again in the 3rd round of the draft.
Cheesey (4-Jun) : Gopackgo, I'm sure you are more then a little busy!😁
go.pack.go. (4-Jun) : Thanks everyone who congratulated me! Sorry I haven’t been on in a few days and I’m just now seeing the responses
Cheesey (2-Jun) : Kevin, you got it! They won't feel as bad about themselves! "Hey Ma! Ain't they losers? And you thought WE was bad!!!"
Cheesey (2-Jun) : Kevin on "The View". ..."Kevin, are you a right wing or left wing? ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!" Kevin:"I'm a CHICKEN wing!"🤪
Zero2Cool (2-Jun) : I think people like those "reality" shows feel insecure in their life, so watching others to put them down makes them feel better.
