Seriously? SS told you this? Or did a politician pandering to his base tell you that?

And unregulated (or more accurately, deregulated) capitalism has done such a bang up job so far, hasn't it?

Capitalism works really well for those fortunate to be born with the right bloodline and an above average IQ. For the rest Capitalism makes for one tough row to hoe. I want a hibred system myself.

And for those of you that believe social problems should be dealt with outside of government by humanism, well there is good news, you still can contribute. But because there are so few humanists doing anything, the governmnet has to step in.

You know what guys, since you have no idea what socialism and communism mean, how about you stop calling Obama and his government that k?

Or maybe you do know what the word means, but just have to call Obama that because your loverboy McCain lost.

What Obama is doing/has done is not what a communist/socialist would do.

Doesn't the communist shoot his way in, execute anyone that opposes him, and then take all personal property? Then they decide what each person should do with their life for the better good of the country?

Seriously, even though some of his ideas are to even out the gap between rich and poor, you still have your house, your car and your computer right? If he were communist, you wouldn't have any of that. Does he control where you work? Does the goverment own every grocery store in the country? It's not communism. You need to live a few years in the 1950s Russia just to get some perspective (not that I did, but my dad did.)

I sit here.... not sure what to make of it all.

The health care system overall is broken.. while I think we are only attacking part of the issue with the insurance racketeering that has been in place for decades.. the point is something has to fucking change.

The cost of health care in this country is absolutely fucking ridiculous.. to the point that the average person bypasses care because he can't fucking afford it yet he is paying premiums for the very care.

A system that used to be about taking care of the our public is now a self serving monopoly on society as a whole, and while I buy some of there claims about malpractice (fucking lawyers and the greed of some) and defaults on payments, it still doesn't justify a 175 dollar bill to draw blood in less than 5 minutes. It is that fucking insane.

So while some will bitch and moan about the health care bill, the simple point is something needs to be done. The Republicans are all up in arms over it, without really fully understanding the dynamics of how it will affect us.. yet you heard none of those assholes crying out about the 10 billion a month to wage a war to defend our supply to continued greed in the middle east. Do the math.. that is the same pace as this health care bill is going to cost us.

9 Billion
x 12 months = 108 Billion a year

Sorry if I block out your fucking rethoric.. that along with the Dems claiming it a out and out victory (shut the fuck up until you truly fix something). No body fucking wins except those that exploit a free ride. This is nothing but a band aid along a gushing wound, IMO.

Yet the media and those that oppose this claim this is going to crush us because it is focused on the American public verses some never ending war?

Think about the waste in this country.. the out and out greed, yet we are going to hell because we choose to take care of our own.

Seriously?

I won't pretend to completely agree with the way they choose to address the problem.. but I also can't pretend to fully understand the reaching effects it will have on society.

All I know.. in the end, because I choose to support myself and not take a handout.. I will get fucked in the end regardless.

But at least they are trying to do something for the common American that can't break into the yuppie country club that our government has become.

But lets bitch because it is more transparent than most of the government spending.

The people who bitch about the cost of healthcare in this country should be the very people advocating for LESS comprehensive insurance, not more. It's basic economics. Artificially inflated demand with a relatively inelastic supply drives up prices. It's unavoidable. Nothing in this healthcare plan will change that fundamental truth -- it will simply reduce supply in the end.

But the issue is too clouded in emotion -- on both sides -- for any but the most cynical among us to see the truth. The fact that people are actually saying the government HAS or NEEDS to do this is proof positive of that fact.

I really wish all these supposedly patriotic Americans would just be honest, confess they have no real interest in maintaining the constitutional system handed to us, and advocate for a constitutional convention, so we can write a constitution that more closely reflects the state of our society. I think the American public needs to be honest with itself and admit it's abandoned the core principles upon which this country was founded. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that. But all the lipservice given to the Constitution, particularly by self-proclaimed conservatives, when very few people actually believe what it stands for, is rather nauseating to me.

I'm glad I stopped considering myself a conservative years ago. I no longer suffer from the waves of cognitive dissonance that accompany the malady of being a conservative these days.

Yes the SS has already told me this. It sounds like you are the one that's sucking up what your politician is spewing.

Um, news flash.. No economic style is great for everyone. But at least with capitalism we have a chance to make something great of ourselves. It wasn't capitalism that has thrown our economy in a spiral down, FYI. So, it hasn't done that bad of a job, despite what you and DakotaT says.

I happen to know what it means, because I read the Communist Manifesto.

Funny, Obama's stances are pretty damn close to communism. So, uhh.. Yes, I do know what it means, and it's insulting to throw out generalizations that I'm just saying it because of a certain conservative mindset happens to say it too. Besides, I don't call it communism, but Obamunism. Same principle, though.

"10 point program of Communism

1. Abolition of property in land and of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all right of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of the population over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production."

The three bolded points are already in motion. The government bailing out the banks and GM gives them power over both. The tax thing is already a given.

I'm sure there's more that I'm unaware of or forgot.

Anyway, I digress. I pretty much ignore the thoughts and ideas of people not living in this country, not because you are bad people.. but your thoughts and ideas are slanted towards what you think is best for America. Which is a bit out of wack, considering you don't have to live here to experience said changes. If we become like every other country in Europe.. WTF was the point of becoming our own nation 300+ years ago?!
