I think there will be a run on OT's and CB's before the Packers select in the first round.

Then the decision will be to get

A) a quality DE (There is little depth behind Jenkins and Jolly)

Possibly Carlos Dunlop or Everson Griffen

or

B) a good blitzing LB to complement Matthews.

Possibly Sergio Kindle or Sean Weatherspoon

Griffen is a 3-4 OLB, and Weatherspoon a 3-4 ILB.

OT, OLB or Safety in the first round.

I can't see us taking OT anymore with the 23rd pick, not with Clifton, Tauscher, and Lang there ready to play. I like the sounds of Kyle Wilson, if he is everything he is billed to be. As dire as some of you think our O-line situation is, I really think the secondary is where we are weakest. If you need proof, go back and watch the Arizona, Pittsburgh, and both Minnesota games.

Is Taylor Mays out of the question with this pick. I believe he is one athletic freak with size and speed. I'm real curious if he has the brain to match the braun. I would so love to have that enforcer back there with Collins. Bigby hits like a truck, but he also moves like one. That position needs and upgrade.

It's a shame there aren't any great cover strong safeties early. Because Bigby is an excellent hitter, and Mays is too. But they are both lacking in coverage.

And it's god damn stupid to say O-Line isn't our biggest problem. Sure Tauscher and Clifton may be solid players but they are as injury prone as it gets. And Lang is no LT, so if Clifton goes down we are fucked. The only reasonable solution is to draft an LT in the first, let him sit behind Clifton for a while and then take over. We don't need a backup LT. We need someone who will take over for Clifton without weakening our offensive line.

Cornerback sounds good too. It was our nickel CB, whoever it was at the time, that got helplessly exploited all the time after Al Harris got injured. Since he probably won't make it back in time, cornerback early is the way to go.

Use our third and trade up for an OT (Okung,Williams, Bulaga).

Take Dunlap in the second if he falls, if not go with another 3-4 OLB.

OT is a bigger need than OLB. We at least have some prospects at OLB. We have nothing at LT.

I think at the 23rd pick we will either do a best pick there ie most likely not a OT unless a good guy is sitting there; but a S CB or OLB ... 2nd round same thing 3-5 is where we will grab 1-2 OTs IMO.

If we were to trade back, I like the idea of trading our 1st pick to New England . We are the only team that is as good at screwing NE as they are at screwing the rest of the league, come draft day. This would be potentially attractive to New England, especially if they are "torn" between two picks at 22, (they pick at 22 in 1st round) with the added benefit that they really couldn't bitch about my deviation from the traditional draft value chart, in that they got a "net" of 190 from us last year when we traded up with them.

What we give up: Our 23rd pick in the 1st round (chart value 760) and our 56th (overall) pick in the 2nd round. (chart value 340)

What we get: New England's 44th, 47th and 53rd picks- all 2nd round picks. (Plus bonus, see below--if Ted plays good poker)

44th (chart value 460) 47th (chart value 430) 53rd (chart value 370).

We lose our 1st round pick, but we have 3 total in the 2nd round, and our last of the 3 picks in the 2nd round would still be 3 picks ahead of where we are picking currently.

New England draft trade chart value= 1260
Green Bay draft trade chart value= 1100

Still 30 better (for them) than our CMIII deal. :thumbleft:, and if they came a knockin' for our pick at 23, we try and squeeze their 190th (chart value approx. 16) 205th (chart value 10.4) and 231st (right after our last pick, chart value 2.3)

We would pick:

44, 47, 53, 86, 122, 154, 169, 190, 193, 205, 230, and 231.

[strike]Now I gotta figure out how to trade up, lol[/strike] Nevermind about that, lol I just did a "what if"...a quickie at that---Rules were:

I used CBS draftscout.com big board

Had to use and pick AT or LATER than their big board ranking--- My very quickie mock using our 12 picks per my fantasy trade with NE-- (CBS big board rank in parenthesis)

44th Rodger Saffold OT Indiana (47)
47th Dominique Franks CB Oklahoma (50)
53rd Dexter McCluster WR/whatever (56)
86th Jason Worlids OLB Va Tech (89)
122nd Selvish Capers OT WV (124)
154th Ciron Black OG LSU (166)-FOR WADE-and possibly dfosterf
OR
154th O'Brien Schofield OLB WI (157) For everyone else
169th Myron Rolle SS Florida State (186)
190th Robert Johnson FS Utah (194)
193rd Zac Robinson QB OK State (196) Playtoy for MM
205th the ZOLTAN! Zoltan Mesko P MI (205)
230th Chris Brown RB OK (239)
231st Aaron Pettrey K Ohio State (247)

See there? I just fixed our whole friggin' team, and I didn't even get any "fallers" PLUS I didn't do any reaching, yet stayed within the confines of the "rules". Screw that 23rd pick. I don't want it anymore, lol :thumbleft:

This semi-goofy game was an attempt to display that (imo) there WOULD be a significant upside to a trade-back scenario this year.

Pack93z and I will let Bellicheat keep his 1.3 trade value chart points left over from last year if he does this trade. :thumbleft:

Don't use the draft value chart dfosterf. It's outdated and has the illusion that the top 5 picks actually cost that much to trade for.

Trade up for Bryan Bulaga. I think he'll be the next solid to great left tackle to come out of the Big Ten.

It's still a little early. I would love to see a back like C.J. Spiller in Green Bay. He could fill that return specialist and home-run back need.

Of course both players I just named are likely to be high picks, but I don't think Ted Thompson feels like this team has a lot of needs and he showed last year that he'll go up and get a guy he likes even if he overpays for him.
