I would respect your right to knock their teeth loose. I would also respect their right to sue your pants off in relaliation. You could take solace in the fact that there's no legal means for an awardee to force the recovery of a civil judgment. So you wouldn't have to pay a cent, and there wouldn't be a damn thing they could do about it, other than ding your credit report for failure to pay.

LMFAO at 'dinging' my credit report. RIIIIIIGHT. If it can get worse than what it is now, then I'd be shocked. Even if my credit COULD get worse.. to what extent? I already can't get any credit cards (like I'm interested.. lol), unless they were desperate, no mortgage company would give me a line of credit to buy a home.. So, yes. I would take very much solace in that fact.

I said that I may be inclined to go the physical route only because I couldn't imagine being at my friend's funeral if he had come home in a casket and some ass clowns decided to picket it. I can't see a scenario with that panning out where I DON'T cause some serious physical damage.

And I'm a Christian.

It's disgusting. These people hide behind "freedom of speach". They are heartless morons, period.
I don't agree with homosexuality, but i would NEVER even THINK of doing something like that. I have friends that are gay, and they know what i believe about what they are doing. But it's no worse then any other type of sin. Like for example: "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
These hypocrites are in for a rude awakening.
If i was that man, i would get the names of any of those "protestors", and in the future, if any of their loved ones died, i would get a group to hold up nasty signs at the loved one's funeral. Then they would know how heartless their own actions were.
WSomeone needs to slap those idiots upside the head.

Also, maybe take a whiz on those inbreeders graves as well, not just protesting them. Just a bunch of inbreeding hillbillies. they make religion look bad, and besides other peoples lives are not anyone elses business.

You either believe in the liberties granted to us by the First Amendment, or you don't. You don't get to cherrypick when the protections afforded by the First Amendment apply. If you want the muzzle the right of assholes to picket funerals, you have no ground on which to protest if someone else wants to muzzle your ability to express your own beliefs.

I would far rather put up with the ravings of a few ignorant pricks than risk having my own liberties infringed. And I wear the uniform of the United States armed forces. Some of my buddies have gone home in those same flag-draped coffins.

"Nonstopdrivel" wrote:

I think the entire point here is that the people whose rights are being violated here are the ones being punished. I'd consider picketing in a way that is as loud and abusive as these "protesters", in a setting such as a funeral to be violating the religious rights of the mourners. The lawsuit absolutely could go the other way, and I'd be awfully surprised if there weren't precedent for that.

It really is shameful and despicable, what this Church does under the protections of the 1st Amendment. And it is also right that they should be protected.

I think what everyone has to realize is that:
1. Anger and publicity is exactly what they want.
2. They are going to spend their entire lives spreading hate and being filled with it.
3. They are never going to "win" this battle.

They can piss people off all they want. They're not changing a damn thing that they hope to change. At least that is a little comforting.

I find it, maybe ironic, that one of the very things that Solider gave his life to protect is what they are using to disrespect him. Freedom.

Personally, the "church" (Cult probably fits better) should be ashamed of themselves, is there no sense of honor and decency left in this country?

I get that it is their right to freedom of speech.. I get by seeking litigation against them violated that right. But the square root of the issue is that they should have the common decency to allow a family to grieve without the nonsense.

But it is what you see all over this country.. one of the primary reasons I won't take my children to a NFL game yet, yes even Lambeau, because of the amount of disrespect and hate spewed from the stands.

What this "church" did was on a entirely different level.. but the basis is the same.

They are messin' with the wrong crowd.

This lawsuit helped to tamper/mitigate the sentiment of Marines and former Marines.

In the event that this Marine's family loses this fight in the Supreme Court, there is no recourse left to the Marines.

I do not generalize by saying Marines in that way lightly.

We bring our dead out, often in real peril of further death in doing so.

Do not underestimate the depth of anger this will instill upon that segment of our populace.

Some Marine is going to blow right by knocking some teeth out of these people and start dropping people with a rifle.

When I say Marine, I'm very much including what most would call an "ex-Marine"

You are talking about some way wound too tight people here, as often as not, and there are tens of thousands of them.

Think of that Colonel in the movie, "A few good men.". Jarheads roll far worse than that. Libertarian considerations are not very high on the agenda in situations such as this, with people such as this.

I give it even odds that if these protests continue under the auspices of our constitution, some Marine is climbing a tower with a high-powered rifle to rectify his perception of the injustice.

I'd suggest an amendment to the constitution to prevent the very real possibility of a bloodbath.

This is the crowd that have climbed a tower in Texas and we all know what Lee Harvey did from that bookstore repository.

This is not advocacy by any stretch of the imagination...I'm just telling you how some of them think.

I refuse to live under the tyranny of fear of Marines. If in their inflated sense of honor and wounded pride, Marines will seek to infringe on the freedoms of others, then maybe the Corps needs to cease to exist. The military is subordinate to the civilian population. It exists to serve the people, not to rule over them. Its mission is "to stand and fight for the right to say something you might not like," in the words of one Marshall Mathers III.

If we need to fear some sort of junta at the hands of Marines, then the Marines need to be disbanded. The Constitution gives us a rule by law. It is not up to interpretation by miffed riflemen. I would hope that such an attack on American civilians exercising their constitutional rights would be prosecuted not just as murder, but as treason.

This is precisely why our Founding Fathers so feared the idea of a standing army on American soil. When the military has deluded itself to the point where it believes its sensibilities are more important than those of the populace, where it believes that the populace serves the needs of the military and not the other way around, thinking men should fear. The palpable contempt for civilians expressed in particular by army NCOs always offended me and was one of the reasons why I left active duty. Military personnel voluntarily took on the responsibility of doing a dirty job. Not everyone is going to approve of the job they did. So what? The job of servicemembers is to be quiet professionals. So they should "suck it up and drive on" as they're so fond of telling others to do. Funny how it's so hard to do that when the shoe's on the other foot.
