Green Bay Packers Only Mock v.19.0

Here is my Packers mock version 19.0. I didn't do any trades (even though I think they are very likely) because I am basing this mock off of my NFL mock draft.

I have the Packers selection Taylor Mays from USC in round 1. I base this pick off of a "hunch" that ted Thompson feels that he can be a difference maker in the Packers defense and he is just to good to pass up.

Here is my Packers mock v.19.0, enjoy!

Round 1: Taylor Mays-SS-USC: Mays has the body, work ethic, attitude and desire to be a very good NFL player. But can he cover and pick off passes? AT USC he wasn't asked to so his stats suffered. Mays is an athletic freak that would strike fear into opposing players coming over the middle and would be a nice complement to Nick Collins.

Round 2: Dominique Franks-CB-Oklahoma: Franks reminds me a bit of Antoine Cason, a person Thompson like and wanted to draft. He is a pure cover corner that is willing to put his nose in to stop the run and has play-making ability to boot.

Round 3: Vladimir Ducasse-OT-Massachusetts: A raw prospect that needs a year or so to develop into a starting LT. Has all kinds of tools but needs to get more technicly sound and needs to adjust to the (speed & power of the) pro game.

Round 4: Jonathan Dwyer-RB-Georgia Tech: He isn't the "burner" that most think that the Packers will take, but he is a really good 1 cut runner that can move the pile and pick up the blitz as a blocker. Slips because of "poor" 40 times and the "uncertainty" of playing in a traditional offense.

Round 5: George Selvie-OLB-S. Florida: A big time pass rush specialist that has seen his play slip the past 2 years. There are concerns about his strength and if he has enough pass rush moves to make an impact in the NFL. In round 5, this is a great value pick.

Round 5 (comp): Vince Oghobaase-DE/DT-Duke: A big, strong kid that needs to use his hands better to disrupt the passing lanes. Can play as a DE or NT in the 3/4, but needs to develop a little more.

Round 6: Deji Karim-RB-S. Illinois: This kid has some burners and can be a very good return man. His is a strong kid that could become a very good 3rd down back in time. A sleeper.

Round 7: Nathan Overbay-TE-E. Washington: Big, strong hands and a pretty good blocker. Not a fast guy but knows how to play TE and use his body.

Undrafted Rookie free Agents:

Joe Pawelek-ILB-Baylor

Mike Newton-FS-Buffalo

Kevin Matthews-C-Texas A&M

Kelton Tindal-WR-Newberry

Matt Nichols-QB-Eastern Washington full article.

Even if Spiller falls that far, I doubt the Texans want his kind of back. He's like Slaton but better. They need an "every down back" like Mathews.
This is a placeholder

1st round- I hope we have a better draft then that. Mays is an athlete, not a football player.

2nd round- There will be several better CBs in the 2nd round over Dominique Franks (Jackson, Kareem | Cox, Perrish | Warren, Donovan | Cook, Chris | Arenas, Javier)

3rd round- Vladimir Ducasse stock has really soared and I doubt he last that late in the 3rd round.

4th round- Jonathan Dwyer will not last til the 4th round and we need a RB who can catch, pass block, and possibly return kick to compliment Ryan Grant.

I agree with all except Mays. I think he is a good player. He showed that at the Senior bowl by picking off a pass and in practice he defended the pass well. Same knock on Steeler's Troy Palumela (Sp?) when he came out of that school.

I think the pack likes mays but I think the 1st round is too high for him IMO ie 2nd round but then again we might not be able to grab him then.

interesting selections thou ...

I dislike the draft...

Mays is a freak athlete no doubt about that but he's just like Rouse... also going for the big play even if it's not the smart one... he's head hunting going for the knock out hit instead of wrapping up or playing the ball which sometimes leads to huge plays by the offense... nether one can cover well one on one ... only fit is to leave them in a zone and let them react... and they don't act well when somebody knows their coming because the other person gets low and they fly over them or juke them and they over run it... basically Mays and Rouse are small LB with man to man coverage issues... and haven't done much with wrapping up or blitzing...

Round 2: Dominique Franks-CB-Oklahoma:
Franks could be a player but his hips are too tight and he'll have trouble with quick guys that can change directions quickly... I think he'll be a good player just I think there would be better on the board in the 2nd round...

Round 3: Vladimir Ducasse-OT-Massachusetts:
I like Ducasse just I don't think he's a OT nor a zone blocking guy... I think he's more of an LG in a power system

Round 4: Jonathan Dwyer-RB-Georgia Tech:
I can't see him falling to the 4th round... though if he does he could be a good pick...

Round 5: George Selvie-OLB-S. Florida
I just plain don't like him because it seriously looked like some games he didn't want to be on the field or cared what was happening... I like his upside but he seemed to turn it off one his teammate Jason Pierre-Paul started getting more hype than him... also he doesn't have many tricks in his pass rushing bag... one trick pony but with two trick but the 2nd one isn't that good...

The rest I like but disagree that Oghobaase can play NT... but he could play 3-4 DE...

I think you made very nice choices in the UDFA part...

If the Packers draft actually fell that way, I believe it would be the worst draft of the Ted Thompson regime.

I do like the Mays pick and the comparison to Troy, if anyone has watched Troy he is not a very good man to man coverage guy, he is used more for blitzing and zone covering. Mays will be used like one of the Packer legends when we ran the 3-4 and that was Butler. But time will tell but I would enjoy that pick even though I wish Dez would slip to us and we draft him just to see Dfoster go crazy like i did last year when Daddy Ted passed on Crabtree and picked a part-timer in Raji
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I'm pretty sure that Butler spent nearly all of his career in a 4-3.

Troy is an amazing athlete. A better on than Mays, imo. I get the feeling that, a lot of the time, Troy doesn't even have an assignment. He's just playing robber. The fact that he came out more polished than Troy in deep zone coverage helps his stock, as well.

I can see Mays falling as far as the 2nd round. There's no way that Polomalu got out of the first 25 picks.

Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
