Green Bay - It's no secret Jermichael Finley has supplanted Donald Lee as the starting tight end for the Packers. Coach Mike McCarthy said as much at the scouting combine.

But if you're expecting Lee, who is going into his eighth season, to complain about taking a less role after starting 36 of 47 games the past three seasons, then you don't know how much of a pro Lee is.

"I try not to worry about stuff I can't control and I'm all about for whatever makes the team better and if him starting and me playing special teams is going to help us win the Super Bowl, then I have no problem with it," Lee said.

"I guess you have to do what you have to do. I have no control over the situation. I just come here, work hard and be the best I can be and just play my role and help this team win more games."

Even if that means playing on special teams, which McCarthy said he wants, and what Lee did on Wednesday.

"Well, you know what, I think that's how I made a name for myself when I first got here, so playing special teams is nothing new to me," Lee said. "So I'm going to keep doing that and I'm going to be one of the best special teams players we've got. So I'm looking forward to just making plays special teams, making plays on offense, whatever they ask me to do, whatever I can do to help us win more games, that's what I'm all about."

Lee said he hasn't thought about what the future might bring since the Packers have Finley, Spencer Havner and drafted Andrew Quarless at the position.

"I never think about stuff like that because I have confidence in my ability," Lee said. "I would love to play here but if I'm not playing here, I'll be playing somewhere. So I just want to do whatever they ask me to do and to the best of my ability continue to work hard and just get better on everything."

Flynn was never the starter, so that comment is really not necessary. Got an opinion on the article though? I'd be glad to hear, err read it! 🙂

You can't but help like the attitude from Lee.

What I wonder, though, is how much of a benefit it'd be for Finley and especially Quarless to have a guy like Lee at TE. Obviously, his attitude is great, but in terms of mentally understanding the playbook and how to make adjustments, you'd think Lee would have major value.

He may get less snaps (and frankly there is nothing too bad about that because he wasn't invaluable to our offense) but he could end up being just as valuable as he has been in past years - just in a different way. Love that attitude, again.

Lee should really devote his entire camp to special teams and blocking. It's the only way he makes the roster unless his stone hands magically transform into what they were several years ago. After all it's entirely plausible that last years dropped passes were an aberration, but I'm not buying it. He really needs to have a good camp to stick around.

Sounds like a guy who wants to be a team player. He's not deluding himself. Finley is on a whole other level than Lee. Glad he wants the team to do well, even if he's not the #1 TE.

Lee hinted that someone else would take him if we cut him. I agree with Lee. I thought his performance in '09 was a drop off, but maybe it was a bad year. He was quite good in '07.

Would like to have 2 good TEs though. Remember '96 when we last won the SB? Keith Jackson was a Pro Bowler that year and he scored 10 TDs and Chmura was no slouch either.

As ZS said, I got more of the impression that Lee's resigned to his fate - which could very likely be being cut. However, I see us keeping Lee over Havner (of course).

Perhaps we could see something like Quarless and Finley in the two TE set, Lee on blocking TE plays, Finley on receiving TE plays.

I agree, I laughed as well. I think we could use more of a contribution than that one liner though. I like reading his opinions. Say your zinger, give your opinion/thought. I think that's a fair "request". :)
