i would never say he played like a backup thats just going to far here..He threw some good passes and bad passes it was the first game of the season and it was in eagles stadium its very hard to start off on the road.Rodgers will never be considered a backup to me because how he played and to tell the truth if you think that why are u a packers fan?

"Finley88Beast" wrote:

No one is considering him a backup. His play today was that of a backup. That is hard to dispute. He was off on a large percentage of throws. He threw two interceptions that were uncalled for. One I know for sure he had a dump off available and I believe the other as well, not sure. He shouldn't have forced the ball to Finley so much so soon. It wasn't necessary.

You expect off target throws and an occasional force or interception from a backup, not a starter. But forcing it in with three guys covering is not a wise decision, even if you're throwing it to Superman. lol

I'm confident he'll rebound we'll be fine.

When we have a lead in the 4th quarter, we don't play to win. It seems that we play not to loose. With 5 minutes left in the 4th and up by 7, I would have loved to see the Pack try to put them away and go for the jugular. It seemed that they were just playing to not turn the ball over.

See, here is why I think it is stupid to criticize playcalling: 1) you did not spent more than one week going through the Eagles' games from last year and this pre-season scouting the defense; and 2) you were not on the sidelines.

McCarthy obviously sets up his game-plan based on what he finds on the tapes he watches.

He is also on the sideline, and has a pulse of the team that you or I (or any fan, for that matter) cannot get.

His QB is clearly having the worst game of his pro-career as a starter, readily admitting he missed throws he would normally make in his sleep. His OTs have shown they are struggling with simple 4-man rushes, and have given up 3 sacks in the game. It is raining, and the ball is slippery. Your Defense has been chasing a QB that looks great, and is hurting the D by moving the ball up and down on them. Said D is clearly looking tired and worn out, with your two best pass-rushers being gassed and having a hard time with multiple fractures in his left hand (CM-III and Jenkins respectively).

There clearly are a lot of things that MM has to account for when calling plays. It's pretty stupid IMO to criticize a coach when, frankly, he has put in the time studying film to understand the opponents, and has the best feel of his football team on the sideline.

Personally, I think MM did what any reasonable coach would have done with a 7-10 point lead and facing a late push by the opponents: tried to eat up the clock by turning to his running game.

I didn't read the entire thread, but one thing that concerns me isn't really the play on the field, its one of my concerns with the Packers for as long as I can remember.

"Madders" was funny, but cut the guy some slack. We friggin won the game!

Getting back to the game, I read Jenkins had multiple fractures in his left hand. Ouch. Both for him and the team, because we cannot afford to lose him.

Ya but he played his ass off and he made some plays and applied pressure, but ya hope that club he wears works out.

One handed Jenkins was still a force to be reckoned with. He made it through this game, he will be fine. I am more concerned about our depth without Harrell.

I know Jenkins will be fine, but the main concern has to be how he responds basically having limited use of his hands to get lose and rush the passer.

Also, Jenkins already is sub-par at wrapping up when tackling.... the cast is not going to help.

Someone mentioned in another thread going after Haynesworth. That is very intriguing (although there are issues like his personality, motivation, lack of knowledge of our playbook hence being of limited usefulness, compensation for Skins to trade him, etc.). We need depth at DE, and frankly Haynesworth would be a huge boost given our loss of Harrell and the injury to Jenkins.

It would be an enormous risk, though...
