I have felt for a while now, that the Packers were winning on their talent alone, in spite of bad coaching. O-line, special teams, play calling have been lacking this year and in years past.

The part that kills me about the situation McCarthy and the Packers are in is that this is the time to take some chances. Change the game plan up. Be creative. Play to your strengths. I haven't seen any change in game plan. You would think that with all the injuries you would HAVE to change things up.

I don't think our head coach has that aspect that, at least I, am looking for. He isn't creative, or he hasn't shown it. The game plan is the same week after week.

Yes we are hurt and hurt bad, but we should have won all three games we lost. We beat ourselves. It wasn't that the other team came out and beat us. I can accept that we are not as good as we were week 1, but I can't accept that this team, with its injuries at game time is not as talented as Chicago, Washington, or Miami.

Is McCarthy a bad coach...no, I don't think so. Is McCarthy a great coach...no. Is he a good coach...I don't even think he is a good coach. He is serviceable.

Does anyone know why he is afraid to use B-Jack more, especially on 3rd down?.

"Chutzpah515" wrote:

It has to be because he does not feel B-Jack has the speed to take advantage of 1-in-1s in the second level.

Other than that, there is no reason whatsoever for him not to be used more.

On the INT Rodgers threw that was intended for Jones, it is absolutely appalling that we did not run. There was a gap straight in front of Rodgers that Ryan Pickett could have fit through. Kuhn was the RB in shotgun formation, but you have to think a speedier RB and that is a play we can get a bunch of yards from by handing it off. The gap was big, but most importantly there was absolutely no one in the middle who could have even posed a minor threat to tackle the RB if we had ran.

I'm seriously beginning to think more and more that this is a problem Ted has failed to address. If his coach does not feel comfortable with the personnel, then he has to get him one he does feel comfortable with. I'm pretty much thinking that Ted has put all his hopes, as inconceivable as it may sound, in the James Starks basket that he will contribute something this year. Because other than him, there is no RB with relatively decent speed for a RB on our roster.

Actually, McCarthy has to get some credit for at least trying to get his receivers free and in the open field to get some catches. He is coming out with different packages that have his WRs in trips bunch near the RT, for example, in the hopes that someone gets free in the middle and can create something. It's pretty difficult to even press WRs in that situation, and you can have confusion with which defensive back picks up who, so there is something there that can benefit this offense.

But for some reason, it has not worked. At all. But I don't think it's because it's not creative enough. It's similar in certain aspects to the packages the Cards used in the playoff game last year that we had absolutely no answer for.

OK, by this argument, you must like Ted Thompson but are neutral towards MM. After all, Ted Thompson brought a lot of the current talent to the team (besides folks like Donald Driver, Nick Barnett, etc).

I'm disappointed in MM this year, but here's my thing - if we dump MM, who do we get to replace him?

It's like this. You want to upgrade a position. Think in terms of the HC as just another position. If MM is let's just say for arguments sake about #16 out of 32 current HCs, will the guy we pick up be an upgrade or a downgrade?

I don't understand going out of the shotgun with an empty back field on 3rd and 2, especially after it failed to work once last week.

This is the main problem with Mike McCarthy; he continues to make the same mistakes week after week.

Oh, you mean like when he went to the empty backfield on the goalline and scored a touchdown?

Please, do not stop there. Do tell us how you would have planned for a team the film shows loves to blitz, and also plays press-man.

Oh, and then please tell us how you would have adjusted your game plan in light of the fact that the Jets blitzed a mere 40% of the time, brought more than 5 rushers only about 6% of the time, and played (much like the Dolphins) a blend of zone with man-to-man coverage.

Please, since you no doubt know extensive details of football from an offensive perspective, enlighten us all as to how you would have called the game. If McCarthy is reading this, instead of actually watching film like you'd expect him to be doing, then even he'll be enlightened by your knowledge and could maybe fix this offense.
