Guy must have nothing to write about. Not like we broke the bank or anything. If i recall, most of it is in incentives. Plus, Grant is NOT the problem. He's been hurt and the holes are not there the same way they were last year. Not Grants fault. A non Barry Sanders human can only do so much @ rb.

This writer must have a quota of negative stories to hit like Florio.

Going deeper into this though, whatever happened to being honored by playing in front of millions of people.

Ye, ok. But just not coming to 'work' for your team, holding out etc. because you'd rather have 5 million a year instead of 3 and then giving away 100000 of to keep the image up... It all just seems a bit wrong to me, especially on such a big stage as the NFL is today .

Look to see if your there praising Grant being signed for the amount he got, and now back tracking..

Who thought it was a bad deal then and now feel like they were right?

McGinn made some valid points in the first half of the article, then completely blew his own argument to pieces when he explained the details of Grant's contract. It is loaded with incentives, and if Grant does not perform well, he won't earn them and can be cut loose at little cost to the team.

Grant has been unimpressive this season, that's for sure. Even against the Colts, he was nothing special. He got the yards that the OL put out there for him, but he did not pick up many yards on his own. I still think there's a good chance that he'll get back to playing the way he did last season, though, with better blocking and a fully healed hamstring. With that contract, motivation will not be a problem.

thats exactly what i thought. Paying Ryan Grant 4.5 million dollars for two seasons including a trip to the NFCCG, isn't really that bad. A lot of things conspired against the FO... the Favre situation, Ryan working for peanuts last season, Ryans unusual free agent situation, and the cheap label. But in the end, its hardly a franchise altering bad move... and like McGinn points out... could be terminated at the end of the year. Kind of a non-issue really.

I would say that the front office handled this whole thing poorly and that they never should have given in despite the Favre situation. But its only 7 games in, and the season is far from over. Ryan Grant still has plenty of time to prove his worth.

Yep a big non story. If the guy doesn't get the yards he takes a huge pay cut in year two of his contract. Not too many players face that. No signing bonus? Almost unheard of for a long term contract these days.
Having the performance bar set at 1000 yards instead of 1250 will make a difference but it is not totally unreasonable. It is not as if the Packers 1st offer set goal at 2000 yards and then were forced to drop it to 750.
What was the point in taking about the prior players anyway? It is not as if Ted Thompson had the authority back in 99 or even 04 to make those decisions. Look at the players he has decided to let go. (There's more than just Bubba.) and you can see he has been right more times than not. No one will make every single move correctly. If this is the worst decision Ted Thompson makes he can make his reservations for Canton any time now.
Even if Grant proves to be a bust it has not hurt the team. If they feel the need to draft another RB in the spring they will do so.

Let's wait till the season is over until we make this judgment.

I'm not happy with his performance so far, but lets not forget the reason this kid got a contract is because of how he played in the SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON, the part of the season we're approaching as we make our playoff push.

beast, I think you've misunderstood the offense the packers are playing.

McCarthy comes from the Bill Walsh coaching tree and runs a pretty clean west coast offense and one of the aims of the west coast offense is to set up the run with a short horizontal passing game.

Wow that article made it about 4 paragraphs before I stopped reading. I'm not in the mood to be in a "badder" mood.

If he wanted to write the article he probably thought he had better do it now because if Grant gets healthy and turns it around like last year there is nothing to write about. Especially if he wants to be negative. LOL

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
