With all teams having played nine games, here are the top five teams in the category of fewest points allowed per game:

Packers 15.9
Bears 16.2
Jets 16.7
Saints 16.8
Steelers 18.0

The Packers are 13th in yards allowed and tied for first in sacks (with the Rams).

Cool!

Another interesting stat:

Average point margin in wins: +14.5
In loses -3

We're winning games on average, by more than 2 TDs, and *every* loss has by by 3 points.

The fact that we lead the points allowed is very surprising. Our D has gotten better in the last few weeks, yet there have been times this season where it seemed like the opposing O was just marching down the field.

I posted somewhere awhile back that the absolute most important thing to winning a SB is to have the #1 D. The Packers won 3 SBs and two of them, we had the #1 D and one we had the #3 D. In '96, we had the #1 O and the #1 D (and a stud ST returner as well).

So while we may complain about other aspects of the game, our D can carry us to a SB ring. I'm not saying that because I'm a die-hard Packers fan but because I'm a historian.

Since 2000, the Ravens, Steelers, Patriots, and Bucs have won SBs with the #1 D. The Pats of 2004 had the #2 D.

FYI.

So, you see why I want Dom Capers to stay the Packers DC so badly?

These times that you are referring to, to my knowledge anyhow, stand out in games like those against the Bills and the Cowboys. If we are "letting them march it down the field," it is certainly going to stick out a lot more when it is against a team that we should (and DID) pound. I'm not sure that I noticed any games this year that we let a team walk all over our defense, with the exception of the previous two mentioned.

Some times they have.

GB is 11 in pass defense
21 in rush defense
and 13 overall defense

but they are # 1 in sacks
1 in interceptions

Who cares if opponents get yards. If they can't score, it's irrelevant.

Maybe I don't understand the game of football correctly, but last time I checked, games are scored by points for you vs points for them, not yards for you vs yards for them.

Did something change and did you guys forget to tell me?

No idea, but we've only allowed 143 in 9 games, which means as of 11/15/2010, we have the best D in the NFL and in the last decade, the team with the best D in the NFL has won 4 SBs. So we're in good company. :thumbright:

Quick note on that, Long for the Rams was an unstoppable force yesterday...it was beautiful. I can see why they are tied with us for sacks.

On topic though, as long as teams are held out of the end zone, they can march until the cows come home, up and down that field....hell, Lombardi Ave too! Keeping them from getting 7's...I'll take it every day!
