You can't get a contract extension for having a great season one year and get fired half way through the next.

Why not? Memories are short in the NFL, and with the Vikings in a precarious situation stadium-wise, I don't see how it would help them to keep the coach who the players have turned against and the fans were chanting to have fired. Childress has not been a good face for the franchise. They need someone new.

I agree. As much as I want Chilly to stay on as the HC, I sincerely doubt that he will have his job after today. Zygi makes hasty decisions all the time (case in point: Randy Moss), and he is not above firing Childress just because everybody else wants him to. And everybody wants him to for a reason, he has been a cancer to this team. Much like Wade Philips was to the Cowboys. With Childress gone, the players will not feel an animosity toward their new coach (presumably) and could quite possibly play to their potention, which we all know to be pretty damn good. They have an outstanding lineup, but they cannot pull it together. I equate that to poor leadership from both Childress and Favre. Which makes me nervous for the years to come. But that is another post on another thread.

Also, the Vikings happen to have one of the best coaching prospects in the NFL on their staff: Leslie Frazier, their defensive coordinator. It would be an easy transition for them, just like the Cowboys with Jason Garrett taking over.

I'd be more surprised if "Chilly" still had a job tomorrow.
And hopefully, the new coach will do just good enough that the Vikings help knock off some of the other NFC teams. They still have to play Chicago, and i wouldn't mind them beating them.

Two questions come to mind from this game:
1. Is Childress still HC next week?
2. Does Favre start the rest of the games this season?

I'm going to say no to 1, and yes to 2. They are dependent upon each other. If Chilly stays, he will sit Favre in a last ditch effort to prove that the losses are not his fault. If he doesn't stay, which he won't, the interim will not have the baby-makers to sit Favre.

This game.....it was.....it was just SO DAMNED FUN TO WATCH!!!!! There was literally nothing that could have gone better. The 8 yard first quarter almost made it even better, because it seemed like a bigger fall for the Vikings, that way. We were winning almost every aspect of the game. We gave them a few fair kick returns, and AP had a few decent runs, but all in all, we kicked the shit out of them. I honest to God thought it was going to be another close game, because it seems like the Vikings/Packers games--excuse me, the PACKERS/VIKINGS games--always are. This game was different though. As good as Favre played in the two games last year, he played that bad in the two games this year, if not worse. I didn't see what his final rating was, but from his two games this year against us, he had 52 and (predictably) sub-50.

Unbelievable. Could not have asked for a better performance from the Packers.

Could not believe their attitude.

Yes get on the teams back if we're 3 - 6 and losing by 21 points but fer chrissakes we were down 3 points in the 1st qtr away from home at a huge divisional rival and they were all acting like it was the end of the world.

I mentioned they were ragging on a team that had lost 3 games by 3 points each and that the sky wasn't falling but it did nothing to appease them.

Well feck em if that's what they want. Let them moan if that's how they get their jollies.

I trust in this team and from the 2nd qtr we owned the Queens simple as that.

I was watching the game at the Orange Moose Bar in River Falls with about 20 fellow packer fans...

It's just great when instead of cheering for packer success/vikings self-implosion that everyone collectively laughs! The penalty on the longwell fg penalty and subsequent reaction in the bar was priceless!

Short of winning a super bowl, today was the best I will ever feel during/after a packer victory!

Musccy -- I had to chuckle to myself that you took the time to capitalize the name of the bar you were in, but not "Packers". Lol. Glad you had a good time, man. Every MN game feels like a playoff game, and damn it if this didn't feel like a playoff win!

"wpr" wrote:

For various reasons, I actually haven't been in the chat room much this year. But when I am, I basically only pay attention to the room between plays and during commercial breaks. Especially since feeds -- not only online feeds, but the network broadcasts themselves -- are not entirely synchronized, it's too easy to know the results of the play before I see it. So I look up from the chat room well before the play commences. Do I lose some content? Yes, but I can always scroll up if I'm dying to know (which I rarely am).
