Those that have HIGH SCHOOL aged kids..

For Christmas, did these kids get you anything?

Reason I am asking is that my 3 step daughters, ages 11, 15 and 17 didnt get ANYTHING for their mom..Their mom is wonderful and does so much for them every day..

Example she recently blew out her back so bad, she couldnt go to bathroom with out help ( walking to it)..Middle daughter asked to go to Kohls for boots on Christmas eve day..My wife agreed even though she could hardly sit..

Last year I took them out and bought what ever they wanted to get their mom..This year oldest one is driving and figured they would go out and at least get some cheap perfume..But nothing

After Christmas these girls each got almost $200 in cash and I asked what were they going to get for their mom..they said didnt plan on it. One had already spent ALL her money

so I came up with an idea of a spa hour, would cost the 3 and me about 20$ each...

One said no, she will get her buffalo wild wing dinner? and other 2 have not replied yet, and seme to not care...

So got me thinking, is this normal?

when I was their age my folks got presents, even to this day some 30 years later they still have a clock I gave them when I was 16

BTW

My kids got me nothing, but I expect it from them..

I've gotten away from giving many presents the last couple years, to my mother or anyone else.

But that's largely because I tend to want the holidays done and past as soon as possible.

For most of my life I wouldn't have been able to imagine not buying something for my mom and, before he died, my father.

I have no idea what is normal today.

But I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of teenagers out there who couldn't be bothered. Especially so-called "middle class" kids. We like to talk about pampered athletes, but this is third-generation of pampering that has gone far beyond just the stars and "beautiful people."

I'm not saying this is you and your wife, longtimefan. Because I've met a lot of parents out there who "brought their kids up right", who haven't been helicopter parents building their kids' sense of entitlement.

But there are so many kids out there who have that sense of entitlement, I sometimes think good parents have no chance of fighting peer pressure on this one. "Everyone does it" (or, in this case, "no one does it") has always been a big persuader for adolescents; but because there are so many others out there enabling other adolescents to MeMeMe everything, the few who don't have a bigger uphill battle than ever.

Frankly, the idea that a kid "can't be bothered" to get a gift for their mother is an argument that they no longer get Christmas gifts from their parents.

My wife is so caring that she always puts myself or her kids 1st no matter what..I gave my wife a anniversary gift last summer bed and breakfast and a long weekend trip to Green Bay ( her idea) and I told her girls then, that it was my way of showing her how much I appreciate all she does for me..

Our kids are not entitled...We hardly have extra money and the only real luxury they have are cell phones..

They dont get to run the streets, have curfews, and for most part are pretty good kids..

But it just bothers me that her girls seem to be so selfish that they do not want to get their mom anything....They dont get anything for their dad either, but he hasnt giving them any type of Christmas gift in the 5 years I have been with them..

So was wondering how normal is it that teenagers dont get their parents gifts

Lydia, 14 years old whom I've essentially adopted, didn't get me anything. She's in Florida with family and she's called, facebook'd and what have you her mother, but nothing to me. Her mother couldn't afford Christmas gifts so I scrounged up $100.00 to give her to help.

I'm a little bitter she hasn't even said anything to me since being gone, but the first second she needs money, 'Daddy, I love you'. I tell myself it's just a phase and it'll pass ... sometimes, I feel it just can't pass fast enough.

Hell no. If my son bought me something, I'd make him take it back. If he made something, that's cool. But he's not allowed to buy me anything nor am I allowed to buy anything for my parents.

I've bought my parents gifts for at least the past 7 years now (I'm 22). Sometimes I've made things (for my mom's birthday one year I wrote half an album of music just for her) and sometimes I buy things. My dad never wants anything. He doesn't want me to spend money on him.

Honestly, a few years ago I stopped really putting much into the presents and mostly enjoy the food and company. I also like giving gifts better than receiving. It's so fun to watch people open them and see their reactions.

I think that is what I wish her kids were more like..

To show how caring wife is...She says to me, all I want and need from her kids is love and she gets it everyday..

For the most part the kids just worry about them selves ( yeah I know 15 and 17 year old girls are like that)

But for example...

17 year old goes to buffalo wild wings and brings left overs home last night... This afternoon brings out it all, dips, and wings..eats what she wants , and leaves boxes out, chicken on plates, dips in a bowl mixed with salsa......Wife screams for her to clean it up...She never does, and then leaves to met friends..

Wife can hardly stand up with bad back but cleans up the entire mess..

I finally have had it with their selfishness.

Send them both texts ( as I am work then and cant talk ) tell them they need to realize how selfish they are and appreciate their mom...Give them examples of how they are selfish and treat mom like a maid..

Finally they see the light...The 17 year old takes mom out to dinner at apple bees, and even gets ME some food left in fridge...And the other two want to give mom a spa day

Sorry for the rant, but sometimes it just pisses me off!!

Sometimes people need a "wake up" call. Sounds like the girls did, and you "woke them up."
I always gave gifts to my folks.

Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
