Grant to start the season. I wouldn't be shocked to see Starks surpass him during the season, but I feel the more likely scenario is that Starks is the 2012 starter. Now saying all of that, I really like Grant, and could easily see him hold the job for the next few years with Starks providing a very good #2 punch.

Sure, Grant has more long TD runs. He also has a lot more runs, period. The sample size on Starks is still too small. I would be curious to see what proportion of Grant's and Starks' runs are for no or negative yardage. I would guess Grant's proportion is higher. I'd rather have a running back who consistently falls forward than a running back who consistently puts the team in 2nd- and 3rd-and-long situations but occasionally breaks off a long one.

Starks getting around 5 a carry against the Steelers was probably the best thing that the guy could have done for his career.

Sure, Grant has more long TD runs. He also has a lot more runs, period. The sample size on Starks is still too small. I would be curious to see what proportion of Grant's and Starks' runs are for no or negative yardage. I would guess Grant's proportion is higher. I'd rather have a running back who consistently falls forward than a running back who consistently puts the team in 2nd- and 3rd-and-long situations but occasionally breaks off a long one.

Don't look at the neg runs as solely being the fault of Grant. Most of his neg yardage plays were not his fault. There were a lot of blown assignments that caused those losses. he maximized as much as he could. He fell forward and got a -2 run when he was hit at -4 or -5. Who is to say that Starks would have gotten back to the line or gotten a positive yards. (stupid program changing what I type.)
The only thing that is for sure is GB should have a little depth at RB in 2011, if there is a 2011.

Grant hits the line of scrimmage at full speed. I don't remember him getting tackled behind the line that much. You might be thinking of B-Jack.

Grant takes one cut and he's gone. Really good for our style of O.

I do agree with you that the sample sizes are small. Let's revisit this next year.
