well, crap.

I really wanted em' to trade Kampman when it was obvious OLB wasn't working.

we got nothing for him.

now it looks like Barnett will be tossed too... lame.

The more QBs that get picked before us the better. If Gabbert, Newton, & Locker all get picked before us that means more players at positions of need will drop to us. I've also heard some talk of Kaepernick, Ponder, or Mallett going in the bottom of round 1.

Additionally, if a QB needy team doesn't get the guy they want in round 1, GB will be in prime position to trade down. For example, say Cincinatti want to go w/ Bowers at 4. They could then trade their 2nd round pick (#36 overall) and some other picks to GB for a chance to draft their QB of the future.

This is exactly how I look at the list. The more QB's that go the more players are left on the board.

One other thing we may see for the first time is that before everything blew up they got the Rookie Pay Scale in although that is not set in stone. Teams may consider trading up banking on this and getting a top pick for much less than it would have cost before. It could also mean teams will not trade out because the cost won't be as much of a factor signing these top ten guys.

I was hoping for an offensive lineman to be drafted last year and it happened. I will be doing the same this year. I really do hope Ted Thompson is able to move up a bit and grab someone like Gabe Carimi. Packers would be set on the offensive line (I still think TJ Lang would play well at LG).

If we don't land a good offensive lineman, I hope a corner falls to us.

Does anyone think we need another OLB? I really liked the progression of Zombo and the short time the Packers had Walden.

With no FA movement allowed if a CBA isn't in effect by the draft it could mean a run at QB since teams with the need won't be able to go after any vets.

So a team that would love Carson Palmer can't do anything with the Bengals to get him if something isn't resolved before the draft.

Different circumstances from previous years. Hard to say how it will all shake out. My guess is if there is no CBA by the draft teams needing a QB will nail one down there. Just a guess.

Teams like the Vikes with new coaching staffs and needing a QB will really be screwed if this CBA comes later than sooner.

Brooks Reed at OLB? No asterisk needed.

"Dexter_Sinister" wrote:

I have to agree with Reed. He seems far and away the most explosive of the outside pass rushers in this draft.

Are there any steroid concerns with this guy? Dude is a hulk and his face is covered in acne.

I know numbers aren't everything but the guy had a horrible vert at the combine. Something like 29. He needs to fix that at his pro day to be deemed the most explosive OLB in this class.

1) Ted's view of BPA is not the same as self proclaimed draft gurus with a web site.

2) Except when very good players like Bulaga and Rodgers fall into his lap it is very difficult to predict who Ted will draft.

3) Most of his picks have worked out better than who the alleged experts claim the Packers should draft.

4) Until the Packers are on the clock you don't know what mistakes other teams have made in overlooking players.

5) There are only a couple of spots a rookie even has a chance of starting for the Packers.

6) Sometimes the Best Player available is at a position of strength for the Packers that might not be one in 3 years.

Think about #2 above. Just expect some surprises.

If we draft Reed you know he and CM3 will be on an SI cover before the season even starts.
