I find it extremely hard to believe the Packers would get a 3rd or 4th round pick for Barnett.

Agreed. I think trading him for another player may be doable though. We might need another Dlineman for rotation thanks to Dumbass Jolly.

I keep imagining Dom Capers adding a 3ILB defense package if Barnett were kept lol.

2 lineman, 3 LB, Clay and Woodson running around doing whatever, and our 4 DBs doing their thing.

Their is the psycho package with 1 d-lineman and 5 linebackers. With our DL depth too it might not be a bad idea.

Also, 2 years $11 million isn't as bad as I though. It's still a bit high for a spot-player/backup but if Capers could find a way to utilize him, Hawk, Bishop and Chillar I could see it working.

There have been several here that have not felt Barnett is a great fit in this scheme not being stout as needed against the run. So for Thompson the question is do you pay a backup that kind of money who is marginal in run defense.

I don't think Thompson's feeling it for Barnett and figures he can get his depth there without paying that kind of money. It's not like there's not players he's going to have to go back and give more money out to over the next couple of years.

It's a juggling act with the money. I wouldn't want to be trying to do it. Any time this boils down to possibly losing a really good player by making a luxury type decision like this now I say move on and be in position to pay the really important guy when the time comes.

I don't want to sound like I am defending Barnett because I also think he is kind of a tool. But to be honest, he is third in career tackles for the Packer all time and would need 35 tackles to take the lead. (records kept since '75) He is only 29 and missed about a year and a half due to injury. He led the team in tackles a record 5 times. Set a single season record for the Packers with 194 (128 solo). According to the Packers website.

http://www.packers.com/team/roster/Nick-Barnett/5d06d9b3-687f-49b4-91bf-0a292f3a2bac

Chillar and Hawk started the year splitting time and Hawk didn't even get an offensive snap in first game. If we can afford Chillar and Hawk for one position, we can afford Bishop and Barnett.

The reason we won the super bowl is depth. We were able to go 5 deep at OLB, 3 deep at safety. I would think everyone learned the lesson of how vitally important depth is. Including the ILBs. Because we lost 2 of them also.

I know what you're saying Dex. I can't put my finger on why I can't stand him, but I think it's because I've seen him blow too many tackles for loss at crucial times of the game. He talks too much shit for my taste, and I can't stand his unnecessary showboating after a routine play.

He's been a very productive Packer, but I think for him to stay in Green Bay, he'll have to accept a smaller role and paycheck, which I don't think his ego allows.

We should re-structure his contract ... then we keep him. Unless we can nab a valuable player in return.

Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)

dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
dfosterf (29-Jul) : 50 cent hookers? I'm moving to Green Bay. I thought it was just real estate that was more affordable there. 😂
Zero2Cool (29-Jul) : Sure seems site going down more than 50¢ hooker
Mucky Tundra (27-Jul) : Golden with two TDs in red zone drills today
