This kind of reminds me of wine connoisseurs. Yeah, it has the right bouquet and the right color, is tart and has a oaky after taste blah blah blah. But does it taste good? If I like the taste of a $2.00 bottle of wine better, then I don't care.

We can do a preliminary assessment and so what if it isn't accurate enough. The only way to be really accurate is using hindsight.

Grading the draft now is just a prediction of how you think the players will turn out. Given that it is just a prediction, we accept the limitations of guessing what the future holds.

Yes, waiting 3 years will give us a better and more accurate assessment, but to be 100% accurate, you have to wait until all the players drafted are actually retired. So 3 years isn't perfect either. But we accept those limitations in our enjoyment of the team.

It is as relevant as the Mocks, because it is fun to speculate. Which is half the fun of being a fan and half the reason we are even on this forum talking about the team.

Great post. Would have been hard to say any better. It amazes me the rules some try to impose on fans of sports, music, food, women, etc. etc. It someone enjoys doing something, they're more than likely going to do it regardless of what others say, especially such a harmless and overall insignificant thing such as draft grades. I suppose it's a nice exercise in futility. I know I don't have time for such things though, unless of course someone was paying me.

All such discussions by fans/media about the teams they enjoy is are an exercise in futility.

It doesn't make it any less fun. Or any less relevant.

People read draft grades, so the sites give out draft grades. If people didn't care what others though about their team, the traffic wouldn't be there then.

I'm hoping you do a grade on the each of the Packers picks and share it with us. I'm looking forward to it.

I agree with most others that this is much ado about nothing. I just like to read people's takes on the draft, if they sound like they are well-informed. I don't care whether or not they give the draft a grade. A grade is just a way to tell at a glance how well someone thinks a team filled its needs. It's no big deal, and everyone knows that it is to be taken with a great big grain of salt.

G.M. Ted Thompson killed it, as usual. All of Green Bay's first five picks brought value, and at least four fit into positions that needed depth. Derek Sherrod will be a starter by year two. Randall Cobb is incredibly versatile and draws Percy Harvin comparisons. Alex Green is highly underrated. Davon House has the size-speed combo of a starter. D.J. Williams is "move" tight end insurance in case Jermichael Finley leaves in 2012 free agency. Don't be shocked if Lawrence Guy or Ricky Elmore develops into a major contributor. Ryan Taylor was UNC's special teams captain in 2008 and 2010.

2011 NFL Draft Grades:

Ted Thompson is one of the elite general managers in the NFL, so it's not shocking that he pieced together one of the top 2011 NFL Draft classes.

With his first two picks, Thompson improved Aaron Rodgers' pass protection and gave his quarterback an intriguing weapon to work with. Later, Thompson found help on defense with great values like Davon House, Ricky Elmore and Lawrence Guy.

The only selection I didn't like was Alex Green. I'm not saying Green is going to suck or anything, but running backs are really a dime a dozen, so you can obtain a quality back at any round in the NFL Draft. I would have rather seen Thompson find a front-seven player at the bottom of Round 3.

Having said that, this grade is still an A+ because of the multiple trade-downs that Thompson orchestrated. Thompson just flat out ripped off a couple of teams during Draft Weekend.

Overall 2011 NFL Draft Grade given on 5/1/11: A+

Dex, I like your comment. It's all part of being a fan. You have the power to agree or not, partake or not, read or not, watch or not etc. I like most things pertaining to the draft, I have zero interest in fantasy football.

The most important thing in football, to me, we did last year - win the Super Bowl. Those are some of my choices, each person can make their own. That's part of the fun of being a fan.

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request

Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : But it should be stable
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : It's probably gonna be slower.
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : We're gonna just full go on to the new host.
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : What crap. Site issues galore
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : if PH dies, there is packerpeople com available
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : database is on new host, eventually website will follow
Mucky Tundra (30-Jul) : Zero, regarding Ewers, you are correct.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Sadly, this might be our life for awhile. I could put it on another host, but seems it was slower, although more stable
beast (30-Jul) : How long will it be down?
beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
