Z2C getting sand in his vagina?! NO WAI!?

To add to the discussion.. I know PP.O has gotten threatened by local newspapers for posting entire articles.. Even with a link provided. So what the 'news hounds' have done to keep in compliance with copyright infringement is post parts of the article in quotes while supplying a link (same as what I do here when/if I post an article).

But that sounds like it's unacceptable to Kevin to post any link/article from those sources.. Forget the whole part where sharing some sports news with others is a good thing part. 😛

But again.. Not sure how and/IF that partnership puts money in his pocket.

I personally think most of the article, plus a link and whomever is posting said link/article should give a thought out opinion on what they've posted serves everyone's interest admirably. I know I'm guilty of failing to do that because often times, I'll find an article and just post it here so I can read it later.

This is the line I'm commenting about. It's not that an author doesn't want their stuff posted elsewhere.. its that they don't want their ENTIRE article copy and pasted elsewhere (taking away from clicks/copyright infringement BS). But if I misunderstood you and that's NOT what you meant, then I take full responsibility for my calling you out.

Typically I don't notice ads on websites unless they are like the ones at ESPN.com that pop out and make sounds.. But I hit just about every page at PP.O the past few days and have yet to notice a single ad (again, with the exception of the tv show that Webby helps out with). So, I don't know what you are referring to.

EDIT: I checked the front page of PP.O and saw that magazine ad you saw. That isn't a banner ad or anything like that per se.. I believe that's another side deal Webby has, seeing as that magazine is a Midwest racing mag. If you look at the section the ad is in, it's in the same section as the tv show's spot. Under the header of 'Teammates'. Maybe that's your definition of ads on a website, I dunno. But my definition is a banner or column ad that is designed more like the ads at GopherHole.com, gucomics.com, or ESPN.com, where basically the site owners get revenue by the ad company that puts together those banner/column ads. Partnerships with local websites that have an 'ad' in only ONE section of the website isn't much of an ad to me.

I can completely understand Kevin's reasoning. Websites who want only short excerpts of their content to be posted elsewhere are basically asking other sites to advertise for them -- for free. I find this recent idea that customers should do the advertising for companies rather bogus, which is why I don't (among other things) "Like" companies on Facebook. If they want to advertise, let them pay for it. If other sites want to use forums like this as a springboard for traffic, they should be willing to pay for the clicks.

Rourke has a good grasp of where I'm coming from.

Anyhow, my last response was unnecessarily confrontational. I'm done with this. I've said my piece and if it's not understand, it's not my fault, it's that of whom fails to get it. If someone has a specific question, I'll answer. Otherwise, I'm outtie this one.

My point point was how I didn't understand why Kev didn't want to have ANY article quoted here if the original author didn't want their whole article posted elsewhere. Simply because the 'fix' to said issue is to just quote PART of the article and provide a link for those interested in the article in it's entirety.

IE I run across an article I find interesting and very informative. I want to either share it with ya'll or I use it as a reference. But because the author has the rights to say "Don't post this article in it's entirety, if you want to use/share it, provide a link", there's confusion on my part whether or not to post it because of Kevin's statement: "To avoid any conflict, if an author/writer does not want their stuff posted elsewhere, I don't want it here at all."

But if his issue is not wanting to provide the free 'advertisement' or clicks, that's his prerogative. I just viewed it as more of a copyright issue than anything else (again, because of the issue PP.O had awhile back with local media outlets).
