I don't expect Burnett to be a breakout player this year. What we've usually seen with safeties is that if they are going to be good it takes them about three years to get there. There seems to be a steeper learning curve at that position than there is for almost any other position. The only position I would definitely put ahead of safety in that respect is QB. I think WR and CB are comparable. At other positions (OL, DL, RB, LB) it is more likely that physical prowess can make up for lack of experience.

Expectations, in my opinion, were held high if a person expected a rookie in such a pivotal spot in a complex defense to play at an extremely high level. Learning curve so to speak.. especially since he lost his season 3.5 games into it.

Darren Sharper was labeled as soft, couldn't make it in the league and now he's in the top 10 or something for career interceptions.

My point is, a label can change and we give labels from what we see on the field. That's just how it is.

What is the definition of breakout in this case? The way I see it, Burnett is going to emerge as a contributing starter this year. I would put him in the mold of what we saw from Desmond Bishop a year ago. His football intelligence should not be underestimated.

However, if we're talking a Tramon Williams like leap, then I think the most obvious answer is Jermichael Finley, who is ready to burst. Some would argue he broke out in 09, but his production hasn’t come close to matching his potential.

Darren Sharper is soft. He also gambles too much and is a loudmouth. "First and foremost, I consider myself an entertainer."

Sam Shields. He is still quite raw/new to the position. However, he has great athletizism, and speed. That coupled with his maturity, work ethic, experience last year, coaching, and having Woodson to help him I look for him to really improve. The biggest challenge will be getting playing time. But I think Capers might/will use Woodson as a hybrid corner/safety/linebacker allowing Shields to get playing time and attack with unique defenses.

Any of the people mentioned could have breakout years, but my first wish would be for Neal, especially as a pass rusher because it's something we could really use with Cullen most likely leaving.

beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request

beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
