Why James Starks Could Be This Year's Breakout Star

Some people are calling him a one-game wonder.

Well, if it weren't for that performance against the Eagles, the Packers wouldn't have won that game. If it wasn't for his steady production the rest of the way, they wouldn't have won the Super Bowl.

Starks has all the talent needed, and then some, to take over as the main guy in Green Bay.

He is faster, quicker, bigger, more physical and a better receiver than Ryan Grant.

If you watch the film on this guy, he just looks better. He reminds me of Ryan Grant a couple years ago but, as I said, a little bit bigger and a better receiver, much better in fact.

He can pretty much do it all. That is, except stay on the field.

He missed his entire senior season at Buffalo and followed that up by missing the majority of the 2010 NFL season with a hamstring injury.

However, once he took over as the starter come playoff time, he showed no signs of injury.

Most likely, Ryan Grant will be the starter to begin the season, but that will include sharing a large amount of carries with James Starks.

As the season goes on, I think the workload will shift towards Starks. I also think Alex Green could make a surprise impact this season as a third-down back.

I think it will be interesting to watch in the preseason how each of these guys perform, but it will really be regular-season performance that decides the share of the workload for the running backs in Mike McCarthy's offense.

If Starks does take over as the starter at some point this season, look for him to put up big numbers as the lead back.

Considering the fact that he was a sixth-round pick last year, I'd say he was a good pickup.

One playoff game shouldn't determine anything with Grant vs. Starks. Ryan Grant had 201 yards and 3TDs against Seattle a couple years ago. Doesn't mean much as this is a new season.

In reality, I see both these guys getting plenty of carries this year. Hopefully, that will keep both guys fresh for another long playoff run.

I'm getting sick of people talking about how Starks is "injury prone." It's the same bullshit they used to say about Rodgers, because he broke his foot that time, then pulled a hammy another time.

Starks is more explosive with his runs then Grant. For some reason I feel like Starks can find that extra hole and get the extra yard, therefore we've seen on so many occasions Grant slams into a wall.

All tho I love the fact that we got 2 RB can pound the ball. This year the offense will be more explosive, Grant + Finley ... what are the opposing defenses going to do?

I picked Starks up for cheap in my fantasy league. I think he'll be starting by week 8...
