A buddy of mine got this email and shared it with me. Since the article finished with "make it go viral" I'm helping the cause (mostly because I'm bored and actually do support it).

Heres the email about the fight between millions of internet users and big money companies:

Last week there was a small meeting at Mozilla to discuss SOPA, the Internet Censorship Bill.
It was eerie. The DC groups were practically screaming, "this bill is the worst we've ever seen and we can't stop it" -- while everyone else had barely heard of it. The consensus? We needed to wake people up.
Well, yesterday the Internet woke up. *You* woke the internet up.
To everyone who wrote their rep, made calls, posted to Twitter and Facebooks -- and especially to everyone who ran the modal and blacked out their logos, you are courageous and you made history yesterday. You just took the first step to combine the web's largest sites, its strongest communities, its staunchest defenders and billions of users into and unbeatable force for stopping censorship.
The scary part? We still might lose. Though growing fast, our coalition still isn't strong enough.
The bill is backed by an unholy alliance of Hollywood, its unions, drug companies, and the Chamber of Commerce. They are pouring money into it, and they've been working on this for years. Yesterday, big players like Tumblr, Mozilla, Reddit, BoingBoing, and even 4chan came out strong on our side. Now it's your turn. We've got to dig in and go viral.

here is a few links describing what the actual bill is all about, for those of who haven't heard about it:

Just wondering how you all feel about this? And if you support it, help spread the word.

The bill would also make unauthorized streaming a felony.

If you are not opposed to this bill, you probably have a conflict of interest and I don't like you.

Instead of trying to control streaming using legal force, they should control it by offering it to customers for a reasonable price.

I know I'd pay $4.99 a game to watch the Packers every weekend with good picture quality.

When all actions are crimes, moral people become criminals.

I hate to say this, I really do, but I ceased to worry about being law abiding some time ago. Because I ceased to believe that elected officials or the boobs who vote them in are capable of reasoned rule-making.

Any country that passes well over 100,000 pages of new laws and rules every year, any country that consents to a system of non-checks and non-balances that does so, has long since lost any semblance of moral legitimacy.

Sorry, James, sorry, George, sorry, Thomas, sorry to all of you who put your name on those documents of 1776 and 1789, the Great Experiment is dead.

Fuck 'em all.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I know that a lot of people DO take advantage of illegal streams and downloadable content, but there are a lot of honest people out there that resort to streams/etc because they don't have any other choice. I don't watch any TV other than the Packers and the occasional Brewers game, but there's no way in hell I'd pay $40 for freaking TV even if I did. Maybe if my cable carrier (Time Warner) would allow me to customize which channels I get and charge me only for what I use, I'd be a lot more willing to pony up the money.

During the Brewers postseason, I paid for MLB.tv's postseason coverage, only to find out afterwards (since it wasn't explained anywhere obvious) that it was "companion coverage" consisting of gameday audio and my choice of various camera angles, and not an actual game feed. It was pretty much unwatchable, so I resorted to a stream. Another great, non-sports example of providing reasonably priced materials is the huge success of Steam, and not only for first-party and indie games. Not to mention the iTunes store/etc.

Bottom line: Some people will steal no matter what you do. Sure, the internet provides an easier way for them to do this, but this bill goes way too far and will simply give the various concerned industries more time to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that the world and content delivery hasn't been completely revolutionized by the internet. I'm fairly conservative when it comes to economics but the entertainment industry as a whole only needs to compete with itself, and has been getting very lazy when it comes to innovations.

I'm cancelling my DirecTV a few days before Christmas. It'll save me over $400 through the duration of my contract. I don't know how I'm going to watch the games, but I'll find a way. Probably setup shop at a relatives home in Green Bay.

DirecTV cost is just too much and unreasonable, especially considering I've missed portions of the a couple games because of their blackout regulations.

I am not a law abiding citizen. There are too many laws to abide by. Heck, probably 90% of the laws I break I don't even know I'm breaking.
