Interesting coincidence. I was just about to post something on this.

We have a grand total of 1 rushing TD from our stable of running backs. B.J. Raji has as many as our running backs combined. Aaron Rodgers has as many as our running backs and Raji combined. John Kuhn has as many as our running backs, B.J. Raji, and Aaron Rodgers combined.

John Kuhn isn't considered a running back?

He's listed as a fullback on the Packers' roster, so that's what I went off of.

What's up with your weird pedantry the last few weeks? Has your period lasted extra long this time or something?

As for my questioning ... I thought a running back included halfback (e.g. James Starks) and fullback (John Kuhn). That was just my thinking and it's probably wrong.

Edit, looked up the definition of running back. (yes, until I find out if I have that new job, I have nothing on my plate, so I'm bored)

running back: An offensive player, typically a halfback, who specializes in carrying the ball.

Under that definition, I don't believe a fullback would be considered a running back because their specialty is blocking, not carrying the ball.

I learn something new everyday.

I always thought "running backs" included half-backs and tailbacks, and that fullbacks were a breed unto themselves. That's the way the Pro-Bowl balloting goes, anyway.

And, as if it wasn't beaten into the round two years ago, you don't have to have that perfect balance on offense, but you DO have to have a credible running threat to keep opposing defenses honest. A running game (even a weak one) keeps defenses from blitzing and/or dropping 8 into coverage on every down.

I hated watching us trying to run on the Giants front four, even while I understood the wisdom behind it...

Since - that's what I've argued against. You don't even need that. We don't have a credible running threat. Starks and Grant just aren't that good. I used to be a huge Grant supporter but he's obviously lost his burst and now Starks is better (ok Nerd, you were right. Feel free to gloat).

But neither of them are any good and every Coach in the NFL knows that.

The Ds we play aren't honest. They're gearing up against the pass all day long. They fear our running game about the same as me fearing Cthulhu coming out of the sea and engulfing San Francisco in my sleep.

(And why doesn't spell check have Cthulhu? God damn Philistines).

If you don't have a good passing attack, a running game really helps. While having a good running game doesn't necessarily translate to championship success very often, there are other measures of success than just Lombardis.

But I agree, if you have a good enough passing attack, you don't need a running attack to win in this league.
