I understand the need for more space but why would they want to put the Pro Shop in the basement if it is such a huge money maker? Having more space is one thing but location is the key. Right now is is located between two gates. On gameday people come in and walk right past the store. It they have to go look for an elevator and wait or worse yet have to walk down a flight of stairs I can see them deciding not to go to the store.

The Packers unveiled phase 2 of renovation plans at Lambeau Field that focuses primarily on the atrium entrance.

The price tag is an estimated at $140.5 million.

The Packers Pro Shop would move to where the Hall of Fame is now as part of a revamped lower level that will double it's size now. The front area of the atrium entrance that is now a walkway, cement and landscaping will be excavated to clear the way for a new main entrance to the Pro Shop, which is a huge money maker for the Packers.

The Pro Shop will not close during any part of the renovations.

The Hall of Fame moves to second level where Curly’s Pub is now, and Curly’s moves to the Atrium level where the Pro Shop is.

Those two businesses will close temporary during their relocations. Packers President Mark Murphy says this will really improve the atrium; in particular our businesses, it will be much better for fans and guests coming to the atrium to get in and out.

The Atrium renovations also include what Murphy called a mini-Don Hudson workout space for conditioning and team walkthroughs.

Player parking is moving to the south end of the Oneida Gate. Players will have access via a tunnel under a new extended Oneida Gate and Oneida Plaza.

In addition, there will be another enterance to the Atrium and businesses to the east of the Onieda Gate.

The project start date is March and with a construction time table through mid-2015.

The Pro Shop is just too small and crowded all the time.
Personally That makes me not want to make the effort to go in there on game days or during training camp.

i was at the proshop on saturday and it wasn't uncomfortably crowded. I would love to have curly's where the pro shop is now, that way it wouldn't have been such a bitch to get to curlys.

I have been there quite a few times on gameday and only a few times during the off season. same for Curly's.

crowded when there is a game but not so much the rest of the time. Which adds to the location dilemma. 10 days when they have games. (12 if they host two play off games.) vs all the rest of the year doesn't seem to make sense. My wife has on many occasions said let's run into the Pro Shop as we were walking past it. I can not imagine she will say let's go down to the basement to go tot he store. Elevators take a long time. People just don't like to take the stairs if they don't have to. Maybe they will put in escalators to the store.

I realize they have most likely spent some money doing research on this. It just seems to fly in the face of what I have seen and studied when it comes to marketing. It almost seems as if they are saying that people will buy in the same quantity and more no matter where they stick the store.

The other thing I have found to be interesting is the desire to increase to size of the store. they sure may need more space on gameday but I can't see it as being a huge need the rest of the time. It would seem that a 10,000 square foot store that turns its stock over 5 times is more profitable than a store that is 20,000 square feet and turns its stock over 2 or 3 times. (overhead and expenses would be less on the smaller store.)

Thus, for a man it doesn't make any difference if the store is in the basement or not, a man will walk in, buy something because he's there to buy that specific item, and leave. So moving to the basement will cost the Packers Pro Shop just the girls' money the most.

I usually don't buy my gear at the Pro Shop anyway. The Jersey Store next to Stadium View and the BigK Mart next to Lambeau have nice things as well, just for a much cheaper price.
