Packers guard Josh Sitton thinks left tackle Bryan Bulaga would be stupid to play on a torn ACL.  Dr. James Andrews agrees, with presumably more tactful verbiage. Per a league source, Dr. Andrews has recommended surgery to repair the ACL tear suffered early in Saturday night's intra-squad scrimmage.  The surgery will happen when the swelling...

Agreed. This sucks for the Packers this year, but it's a no-brainer move, and clearly what is best for him and the remainder of his career.

They said on ESPN that he has an outside chance of being available for the post-season. Question: if somebody is IRed, are they eligible for post-season?

Since this was apparently not quite as bad an ACL tear as some people get, it's a damn shame if it's true they need to do the full reconstruction thing automatically. The speculation about being available for the playoffs seems to indicate the year long recovery full reconstruction thing may NOT be automatic. Anybody know?

Last season they introduced the IR with return exemption.. each team can use this on one player per season and the player can return after, I believe week 8.

It's possible. Rod Woodson did it years ago. He only came back for the Super Bowl, though (I think). I'm sure there are others. I wouldn't think it was likely at all. Plus, if a team made it to the NFC Championship game or the Super Bowl, would they really want someone to play that hasn't played all season? I mean, something must have been going right if they made it that far. The only thing that could force the issue I suppose is recent injuries.
