With all due respect I disagree. Why would GB given Brett permission to go to MN when it was apparent all they needed was a quality QB to be a SB contender? Yes Brett played in GB for many years and helped the team to succeed. He was well compensated for that. he was given a lot more leeway with the organizational rules during that time period.

Giving permission to seek a trade does not mean the team is bound to agree to what ever deal he would have found. The team still held his contract. So any deal had to be approved by the Packers. Letting Favre shop himself around, gives him the feeling of more control of his future, and quite possibly resulted in better compensation than we ended up getting.

And would have been a much smoother separation not only for Favre the Packers but also the fans.

Brent only "shopped" in one store. He wasn't about to go looking for the best deal he could get for the Packers organization. He wanted to break it off him Uncle Teddy's back pocket so bad he couldn't stand it. They said no and understandably so.
