Or perhaps because he has experience from his playing days in a 3-4?

Moss played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1987-90), Los Angeles Raiders (1991-94) and Seattle Seahawks (1995-97), according to Packers.com.

Perhaps one or more of his tenures listed above involved playing in a 3-4?

I personally think this was done as a favor since he is in the middle of the interview process with St. Louis.. kind of a downer if he gets fired in the middle of the process.

It is possible they are waiting for the St Louis job to be filled then promote.. if he gets the job, then they don't have to deal hiring a second DC.. but with all respects Porky.. I don't see the quality in his work here and would be mildly surprised if he takes over the reins..

I expected a shake up but wow. The whole defensive coaching staff besides one. I guess it is a fresh start this spring for the defensive players. I think this is a good and a bad thing. But I think it will work out next season. I hope it will anyway.

Winston Moss wouldn't be a candidate for a head coaching job if he wasn't a good coach. St. Louis probably won't hire him either as it's rare for a guy to interview for the first time and get hired especially from a 6-10 team. Then again McCarthy I think did, but that was Ted Thompson pulling one out of thin air.

I bet Moss is on the shortlist. The more reported, the more that I think will become apparent. All we can do is speculate though.

Damn I've gotta say I'm pretty disappointed in the loss of Washington and Rock Guilikson but It does make me think of a few things.

Does anyone else think that it's possible that with the firing of the entire defensive staff minus Moss could mean a scheme change possibly to the 3-4 or the Tampa Cover 2? I think the 3-4 could be really good we have strong LB's the only think I worry about is that I think it would be a waste of Kampman's immense talent.

What do you guys think?

Gullickson? WOW!!

Hasn't McCarthy completely raved about their strength and conditioning and given this aspect much credit for their success last year. Isn't the offseason training and conditioning supposed to be the catalyst for success year in and year out under McCarthy's tutelage. Doesn't Ted Thompson still talk about their philosophy of developing players? Doesn't releasing Rock Gullickson, the architect of their core strategy, now set the whole program back to square one?

I'm starting to wane a bit on Mr. McCarthy about now. Just like Sherman and every coach before him, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and will always appreciate their efforts in GB but winning is the only thing that matters in the end. I'd say that Mac has one more year or it's curtains for him.

Clearing the deck for the new DC.

Gullickson I don't understand. You don't go from 2007 S&C coach of the year (as voted by his peers) to dog-poop in one season.
