Don't wanna to jugde that (even IMO CM52 is worse in coverage than the other 3), but for a comparison ... the St. Louis Rams are a better football team than the Jaguars, Buccaneers and Raiders. Correct as well, but it doesn't prove that the Rams are any good.

Why not try one of the Safeties up at ILB?

I don't even know how I feel about this, but nobody has mentioned Bradford yet. At one point in his playing career, he played with his hair on fire.

Clay Matthews III cannot play ILB. He is not strong enough. He's a one, maybe two trick pony on the outside. He needs that open space on one end to do this thing. You put him in the middle, he is a cat in a toilet bowl.

ILB need to be agile side to side power thumpers like Desmond Bishop was and Jamari Lattimore can be.

Try either Sam Barrington or Carl Bradford. Leave Matthews on the outside.

Barrington was and maybe still is hurt, and he didn't look all that strong either; I like the idea of Richardson moving in there, but I doubt it will happen; Matthews would be a significant improvement, and we have the depth outside to replace him there.

The one thing nobody has talked about is that ILB is more of a cerebral position than OLB. I seriously doubt that Matthews is too dumb to play there, but there is more decision making involved.

We wouldn't lose anything except the rare caught from behind tackle in the run game. Neal and Perry are both better at setting the edge in run defense. And with the way our secondary has been playing, I would feel safe sending Clay on pass rush from somewhere across the line. Is the offenses going to try to match up 5 on 5 blocking or would they keep a back in or a TE to help chip.

We still have Hawk in the middle, our safe LBer. Pair Clay next to him and let Clay attack.

D.J. Smith was released today.. is familiar with our system and honestly prior to him being hurt was a far better option than Jones. Might be worthy a spot on the roster over a guy like Bradford.

I don't see Clay going inside on a regular basis as an answer but I was not impressed with his effort on a lot of plays Sunday. When the Fins started running the ball several plays went off the butt of the guy blocking Mathews and the effort he gave on some of those was not very impressive. He wasn't getting off the blocks and didn't put up enough fight IMO.
I don't think he even made a tackle in the game and that's just not good enough.

If we're wanting a coverage ILB, then I suggest Hyde or Richardson.... yeah I know they're Safety but they're both very physical and get cover pretty well for a ILB.

And for running down maybe Mike Neal? ... he's used to be in the middle and dealing with OL some.

Maybe Barrington if he's mentally ready... seems like he's very athletic but made more mistakes than I wanted to see still in training camp but he's still young and growing.
