Ted has a solid pattern of filling a glaring position of need with his top pick.

Just off the top of my head, Aaron Rodgers, AJ Hawk, BJ Raji, Bulaga, Sherrod, Dix, Datone Jones, Nick Perry, who am I missing?

And I really don't see D-Line as a position of need at all.

Canned response is, the best player available.

IF we are lucky and a stud ILB drops to #30, than BPA also fits a place of need. If not, we improve another position with the best player available in the draft and Clay plays the majority of his time at ILB and Perry/Neal/Peppers fill the OLB role.

An option I might like is the SS Landon Collins. He has good size 6' 228lbs that I think he could play ILB in passing downs when Clay moves back to OLB.

I like a lot of the ILBs this year like Perryman, Anthony, McKinney, Dawson, Heeney, Wilson. Just not as 1st rounders. Kendricks seems all right I'm just not sure I'd get too excited about using a 1st round pick on him. Though the likely available 1st round CBs aren't too spectacular or anything either so I'm not gonna lose it if we end up with an Anthony, Perryman, Johnson (CB) etc.. at 1. As long as we get a good player I don't really care I guess.

I think the draft this year will be interesting because after the first 10-15 picks or so it looks like a complete free-for-all. There are going to be a lot of surprise names picked in early rounds this year I bet.

IMO, these are the only players I would draft at #30 at ILB, CB, DL:

DL:
Leonard Williams. Worth trading up for, but would take a Lawrence Welk trade. Not going to happen. Long gone.
Danny Shelton. Worth trading up, but not as far as it would take. Long gone.
Dante Fowler. Worth trading up, but not as far as it would take. Long gone.
Shane Ray. Wouldn't trade up for. Long gone.
Alvin Dupree. Wouldn't trade up for. Long gone.
Eddie Goldman.

ILB:
None.

CB:
Trae Waynes. Worth trading up a bit, but not as far as it would take. Long gone.

That's it. There is a fair amount of 2nd/3rd/4th talent at CB and DT, not much at ILB.

I hope Ted Thompson can find a way to trade down and pick up one of those few 2nd round talents at ILB (Kendricks, Anthony, McKinney), and then pick up CB and DT in 3rd and 4th.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The problem is the talent level from about 20 to 50 looks pretty solid so who needs to sacrifice a pick to trade with Ted? I see a lot of pretty good players to about #50 or 55. Also, if there is a run on CB's then Ted would either have to take like the #4 player there and I agree there probably won't be a player at DL, or ILB better than some guys at other positions.

We all want one of the 3 positions picked right away but Ted may be looking at a list that has a better player at some other position like WR or RB depending on how it falls. For example if Melvin Gordon is sitting there do you grab him or the 4th highest rated CB or maybe reach for an ILB? For the long run it's always best to take the best player. Good players always find the field whereas reaching for a player usually won't turn out well.

Get the best players you can. They will find their way on the field. Just because the roster looks good at several positions today doesn't mean you won't need that guy 10 games into the season. I hate to say this but this looks like another draft where the Packers probably won't get a true 1st round talent at #30. The last thing you want to do is compound that and not at least get a good player at some position.
